About us
The American Red Cross Southern California Region serves San Diego, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino and Imperial Counties. The Southern California Region exists to provide compassionate care to those in need. Our generous donors, volunteers and employees are part of a nationwide network committed to preventing and relieving suffering here at home, across the country and around the world. The Red Cross empowers ordinary people to perform extraordinary acts in emergency situations. We train. We mobilize. We connect donors and volunteers to those in urgent need of a helping hand. Whether it’s a wildfire or a home fire, a call for blood, or a call from a service member or military family in need, the Red Cross is there. We provide food and shelter in emergencies, assist members of our armed forces, veterans and their families, teach lifesaving skills to ensure our communities are prepared to respond to emergencies, and so much more. All Red Cross assistance is free, made possible by voluntary donations of time and money from the public.

Last week, Regional CEO Sean Mahoney and past Board Chair of our San Diego and Imperial Counties Chapter Charlene Zettel presented a Red Cross Recognition Award to Senator Brian Jones. The award acknowledges the Senator's commitment to hosting blood drives, donating blood and platelets and raising awareness about the need for donations. We're grateful to Senator Jones for his commitment to the mission of the Red Cross!

Our own Red Crosser Carol La Vache recently reunited with the heroes that saved her husband, Lenny’s life! While running errands at a local store, Lenny experienced a cardiac emergency. Fortunately, retired Fire Captain Jim Tulette and his wife Dilki were nearby. Jim immediately began CPR and instructed store employees to call 911. Shortly after, a crew from Orange County Fire Authority Station 48 arrived on-scene to continue care. “You saved his life... I cannot thank you enough for how brave you were. Thank you for everything,” said Carol. We applaud the lifesaving actions of Jim, Dilki and OC Fire Authority Station 48!

Days after Hurricane Beryl touched down in Texas, flooding communities and causing massive power outages, Red Cross disaster teams are focused on supporting the growing need for emergency shelter as people seek relief from continuing extreme heat. Read from our Vice President of Disaster Operations and Logistics Brad Kieserman about what communities are facing after the storm and how you can help in this #LinkedInArticle. You can help people affected by Hurricane Beryl in the United States by making a donation at https://rdcrss.org/3Lkxfew, calling 1-800-RED-CROSS or texting 'BERYL’ to 90999 to make a $10 donation. #HurricaneBeryl #DisasterRelief #DisasterResponse

Our team had a busy holiday week responding to disasters across our Region. ➡️ San Diego volunteers supported McCain Fire evacuees at the Golden Acorn Casino with a safe place to stay, food, health services and more. ➡️ Riverside County volunteers worked alongside the Riverside County Department of Public Social Services to support two shelters in response to the Lemon and Hill Fires. ➡️ San Bernardino County volunteers are supporting more than a dozen families affected by a residential motel fire. ➡️ In addition to local disaster responses, team members from the SoCal Region have also deployed to help those affected by Hurricane Beryl and the flooding in Iowa.
