NEWS: Square Roots is growing plants “in the dark”, supported by a grant from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Removing light removes the biggest energy hurdle for indoor farming, directly reducing costs and CO2e. Ultimately this work could bring the advantages of controlled climate agriculture to more crops and more markets—including low and middle income countries, where future food supply from traditional outdoor agriculture faces outsized risk due to the climate crisis. You can read more here: https://lnkd.in/gaVuWGwj #indoorfarming #futureoffood #verticalfarming #photosynthesis (NOTE: this program is a fantastic use of the Square Roots modular indoor farming platform, and a great example of ways we are helping partners accelerate agricultural research as they figure out the future of food and beyond in the face of climate change).

Every day there's another news story highlighting how climate change is putting food supply at risk, with the domino effect of putting jobs, livelihoods and entire industries at risk too. If you're not already, start paying attention! This story is heart breaking: https://lnkd.in/eDsBiETX "Olive trees have been cultivated around the Mediterranean for thousands of years, with Spain alone producing half of the world’s supply of olive oil, but wildfires and soaring summer temperatures mean the future of this ancient industry is looking increasingly uncertain."
