About us
The State Collaborative on Reforming Education (SCORE) wants all Tennessee students to succeed in school, college, career, and life. SCORE drives for changes that transform education in Tennessee – from kindergarten through postsecondary education. We advocate for students, monitor progress, research and innovate new approaches, and engage and empower educators to achieve four goals: 1. All students receive an excellent public K-12 education. 2. All students earn a credential or postsecondary degree. 3. All students are prepared for a career that enables economic independence. 4. Across all goals, all students have equitable opportunities for success. Our strategic priorities are excellent educators, high expectations, and K-12 to career alignment. An independent, nonprofit, and nonpartisan education organization, SCORE was founded in 2009 by Senator Bill Frist, MD, former US Senate Majority Leader. We are student focused, research based, and mission driven.

Last week SCORE team members spent some time giving back to the community. One group cleaned and organized toys for playrooms at Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt University Medical Center while another helped out at the Nashville Humane Association. Many thanks to both organizations for the opportunity!

Today, we release the first two memos in the series. • Teacher Evaluation: Driving Improved Instruction and Student Achievement, looks at how annual teacher evaluations lead to more effective instruction and advances in student achievement. • Standards and Assessment: Setting High Expectations and Monitoring Progress reviews how high academic standards, aligned assessments, and the use of data have propelled our educational progress and provide essential data about student achievement and growth. Join us in revisiting and recommitting to these foundational policies. Let’s continue our track record of educational improvement grounded in using data to improve student outcomes.
