𝐂𝐚𝐥 𝐖𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐑𝐞𝐜𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐏𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐕𝐢𝐨𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 The California Wellness Foundation is deeply disturbed by the shooting at former President Trump that resulted in a loss of life and critical injuries to several attendees at his campaign rally. This act of political violence is unacceptable and goes against the core principles of our democracy. The escalation of political tensions into violent acts is a deeply troubling trend that threatens the fabric of our democracy. This event, however, is not isolated from the broader crisis of gun violence plaguing our nation. It serves as a stark reminder of how easily political disagreements can turn deadly when high-powered weapons are readily accessible. This incident highlights a disturbing pattern: The devastating impact of assault-style weapons extends far beyond political spheres and into our communities. The majority of mass shootings and those affected by everyday gun violence have disproportionately been people of color, underscoring the urgent need to address not only the proliferation of firearms but also the systemic racism and hate speech that often fuels such violence. This complex interplay of political animosity, easy access to lethal weapons, and deep-rooted social inequities demands a comprehensive approach to creating a safer society for all. As a foundation committed to advancing wellness for all Californians, we believe that ending gun violence is crucial to creating safe and healthy communities. We call on our leaders and fellow citizens in California and across the nation to redouble efforts to stop gun violence. This includes supporting research, community-based interventions, and policy efforts that can prevent gun violence and promote healing. In these challenging times, we must reject violence, embrace dialogue, and work together to build a society where everyone feels safe and valued. Let this moment serve as a catalyst for meaningful change and a reminder that our strength lies in our unity and shared commitment to a peaceful, just, and equitable society.

Cal Wellness' CEO, Richard Tate, and board secretary Angelica Salas (executive director of CHIRLA) shared their insights as panelists last week at "The 5th Annual Immigration Summit: Championing a Bold, Just, and Inclusive Democracy," discussing crucial topics on immigrant inclusion. The dynamic panel explored philanthropy’s pivotal role in mobilizing resources, forging connections, and fostering collaborations to advance immigrant integration. This interactive session provided a platform for emerging leaders in California’s philanthropic community to outline their strategies for supporting immigrant communities and strengthening our democracy. Together, we’re building bridges and advocating for a more inclusive future. Thank you to the California Community Foundation, USC Equity Research Institute, The California Endowment, Weingart Foundation, and everyone who made this event a success!
