The week of July 4 marks the anniversary of our very first local food delivery in Philadelphia, our founding city. In July 2008, married couple Tatiana Granados and Haile Johnston founded The Common Market to enhance health outcomes and promote food sovereignty in their North Philadelphia neighborhood. In their work, they identified a significant disconnect between communities like theirs and nearby small family farms. There were so many challenges for farmers to get their good food to schools, hospitals, and other wholesale outlets...there had to be a better way. So, they set out to create a mutually beneficial link between urban and rural communities, and in turn, establish relationships that built up the health and wealth of all people. Since those founding days, we estimate close to 120 million healthy meals have been served through our partnerships. Today, we continue to build upon our progress, together. We are building a new equitable, vibrant food system. Thanks for being along for the ride! 🚛

The Menus of Change Leadership Summit features over 40 presenters, including nutrition and environmental scientists, consumer insight experts, chefs and culinary entrepreneurs, CIA faculty, business leaders and investment analysts, industry sector innovators, and other food systems changemakers.

We recently had the opportunity to host end-of-year celebrations in Charlotte, NC and Camden, NJ to showcase the impact of Full Futures! Full Futures, a program launched by Campbell's, brings together non-profit, public sector, and corporate partners to increase nutrition access, expand school meal programs, and foster school nutrition environments that ensure all students are well-nourished and ready to thrive at school and in life. Our Full Futures Charlotte celebration featured food prepared by Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools culinary arts students and a presentation by student interns about their experience working with 100 Gardens and The Bulb. The celebration also included a Family Nutrition Night at Eastway Middle School, which offered free local produce and nutrition education to more than 60 families.   Our Full Futures Camden gathering brought students and partners together to celebrate year-end highlights with Wellness in the Schools, Food Bank of South Jersey, the Camden Youth Advisory Council (CYAC), and Camden City School District's Nutrition Team. We were also joined by School Nutrition Student Ambassadors and the district's first-ever Jr. Chef, who are responsible for preparing food for their peers.
