Denver-based Snarf's Sandwiches, which debuted in Colorado Springs two years ago on the city's north side, will add a second location on the south end of town and join a growing mix of new businesses along the redeveloped South Nevada Avenue corridor. The chain plans to remodel a familiar red-brick building at 1640 S. Nevada Ave., which for several decades had housed the Ivywild Pharmacy until it moved last fall to a new location at 311 S. Nevada. Snarf's aims to open in the fourth quarter of this year, depending on the pace of construction and obtaining building permits, said spokeswoman Helen Wood. Snarf's expanded to the Springs in summer 2022 when it opened at 7495 N. Academy Blvd. in the Shops at Falcon Landing retail center.

The PRISM Awards, honoring social impact businesses and entrepreneurs, return this month to Colorado Springs after a break last year. The seventh PRISM Awards, presented by the Southern Colorado Impact Group along with SDB Social Impact, a social impact consulting service, and the Better Business Bureau of Southern Colorado, will be held from 4:30-7 p.m. July 25 at The Mining Exchange hotel downtown. The Southern Colorado Impact Group is a 501(c) social enterprise with the mission of advancing "a purpose-driven marketplace." The hiatus last year came as the National Institute for Social Impact transitioned to the Southern Colorado Impact Group. “The PRISM Awards highlight the remarkable achievements of businesses and entrepreneurs who are transforming our community through purposeful and impactful initiatives,” Jonathan Liebert, executive director of the Southern Colorado Social Impact Group, said in a release.

Thirteen Colorado Springs-area Safeways would be sold and taken over by a new owner as part of plan by Kroger and Albertsons to sell hundreds of stores nationwide — a move the grocery chains hope will help them stave off court challenges to their planned $24.6 billion merger. A list of 579 stores to be sold in 19 states was released Tuesday by Ohio-based Kroger, which operates King Soopers groceries in Colorado, and Albertsons, based in Idaho and the owner of Safeway. In Colorado, 91 Safeway and Albertsons stores out of 105 will be sold to New Hampshire-based C&S Wholesale Grocers, which operates the Piggly Wiggly and Grand Union supermarket brands.

After President Joe Biden's administration designated the Mountain West’s quantum industry as one of 31 tech hubs in October, Colorado state leaders hoped the region would get on the program's shortlist for more funding — and more recognition. The second phase of the new federal tech hub program was a key part in cementing Colorado as the center of the quantum computing industry. This week, state leaders got what they were hoping for. The Economic Development Administration announced Tuesday that Colorado's Elevate Quantum is among 12 tech hubs to receive funding for the U.S.’s most critical technologies – beating out Illinois' quantum tech hub. Elevate Quantum is a nonprofit based in Denver representing the Mountain West tech hub covering Colorado, New Mexico and Wyoming. It won an extra $40.5 million grant from the Biden administration.
