“In this politically divided climate where people don’t feel listened to when decisions are made, I think Trust for Public Land is squarely in the bull’s-eye of something that I think is really important. And that is the power of convening. It’s the power of listening. It’s the power of making sure that all voices are heard, whether that’s a rancher on the Western Slope of Colorado or in the middle of Nebraska, or it’s a community in the South Side of Chicago that’s really working to make sure that that’s a safe place for kids.” Read more from Dr. Carrie Besnette Hauser, TPL’s incoming CEO and President in The Colorado Sun: https://lnkd.in/eDPkWQEn

Studies show that people who live close to a park are more physically active, which helps reduce the risk of chronic conditions like obesity, heart disease, and diabetes. In cities where space is a premium, our Community Schoolyards program helps put close-to-home parks where they're needed most. We're proud to have the supporters like NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital who are dedicated to improving community health through the power of parks!
We are pleased to announce the Trust for Public Land, in collaboration with #NYP, the City of New York, and the Inwood Community Campus, opened a new Community Schoolyard to serve three schools and the broader community in Northern Manhattan. The Community Schoolyard program transforms asphalt playgrounds into green spaces with the goal of improving student education outcomes, community health, and climate resiliency. The new space includes fitness equipment, a volleyball court, picnic tables, an outdoor classroom, pollinator gardens, and green infrastructure designed to help reduce flooding. National monuments: The very term can be confusing. Monuments usually evoke stone statues commemorating historic events or people. But our national monuments encompass not only statues—indeed, the Statue of Liberty is one—but vast and stunning landscapes located both on land and under water, as well as buildings or other sites of cultural and historic significance. The Fourth of July holiday marks the beginning of our nation’s outdoor season. This July 4th, we are proud to champion the Outdoors for All Act, which expands federal support for parks in communities that can benefit the most. We’re proud to be working with Congress now to improve Outdoors for All by including provisions that will make it easier for cities and towns, and that will for the first time guarantee direct tribal access to this important park funding. #OutdoorsForAll #OutdoorsForAllAct

Boston's Hyde Park neighborhood is getting greener! Construction has started on the Chittick Elementary Community Schoolyard, which marks the beginning of an amazing transformation. We are revitalizing the old, asphalt-covered schoolyard into a vibrant, green space. In partnership with AEW and the community, we're working to increase park access for residents across Boston. Once complete, this space will offer a high-quality green area for not only students, but also the 6,300 residents who live nearby! https://lnkd.in/eyjD_-2W
