At The Priority Center, its our goal to support families in helping their children thrive at home so they can also thrive in school, both academically and socially. Meet 6-year-old Kaitlynn, struggling with tantrums, social isolation, and school refusal. Kaitlynn’s anemia had also affected her confidence due to hair loss, leading her mom, Layla to seek help from The Priority Center. Our Mental Health Worker guided Layla through a behavioral health evaluation for Kaitlynn and introduced her to the Triple P Positive Parenting curriculum, providing tips on self-esteem, bullying, and tantrums. The family was also connected with Dr. Riba’s Health Club and resources from Human Options for long-term support. After three months, Layla joyfully reported that Kaitlynn now plays with a neighbor, has fewer tantrums, attends school regularly, and enjoys her literacy class. Layla feels more confident advocating for her daughter and is grateful for the support from The Priority Center’s Services for Families with Young Children program. Kaitlynn’s story showcases the transformative power of our programs and the importance of our Ready, Set, Learn - Back-to-School Campaign, in which we support children like Kaitlynn. On June 2, 2024, The Priority Center held our 4th Annual Pickleball Tournament at the Tustin Hills Racquet and Pickleball Club. The day was designed for both pickleball enthusiasts and beginners alike, with a Beginners' Clinic and social tournament for those new to the sport and a competitive tournament for experienced players. The event included a raffle, swag bags for players, food, and an award ceremony. Congratulations to Kathy Hoffer and Tanya Stevens, crowned Queens of the Court for our Social Tournament, and Scott Shane & Rich Richieri, crowned Kings of the Court for our Competitive Tournament. Thanks to the overwhelming support of our sponsors, players, and attendees, we raised nearly $24,000 for children and families in crisis served by our life-changing programs. During Volunteer Appreciation Week, we want to extend our deepest gratitude for the outstanding dedication of our incredible volunteers. Their unwavering commitment is essential to The Priority Center's impactful work, enabling us to transform lives and provide vital support to those facing crisis. Whether they volunteered in our Basic Needs Warehouse, supported events, participated in drives, or contributed to our Families Helping Families Holiday Gift Drive, their time and dedication are priceless. Through their efforts, we can continue assisting individuals, children, and families when they need us most. We are truly fortunate to have them part of The Priority Center Team. Last year alone, our volunteers donated over 575 hours to support families benefiting from our programs. Together, during the Back to School Drive, we distributed over 400 backpacks filled with essential supplies to children in need. During the Families Helping Families Holiday Gift Drive, volunteers wrapped and distributed over 2,000 gifts for nearly 200 families.
