☀️ Stay Sun Safe: Understanding Skin Cancer Did you know that skin cancer is the most common cancer in the United States, with over 5 million cases diagnosed each year? The primary cause of skin cancer is UV radiation from the sun. Here's what you need to know about the three main types of skin cancer: Melanoma: ⠂The deadliest form of skin cancer, but also the most treatable when detected early. ⠂Can develop anywhere on the body. ⠂Appears as an asymmetrical mole with irregular borders and changing colors. Basal Cell Carcinoma: ⠂The most common type of skin cancer. ⠂Slow-growing and rarely spreads to other parts of the body. Squamous Cell Carcinoma: ⠂More aggressive than basal cell carcinoma but less common. According to the American Cancer Society, those at higher risk for developing skin cancer include people with fair skin, a history of sunburn, a family history of skin cancer, and those who use tanning beds.
