  • Say hello to Cody! She comes to us from American Falls, Idaho, and is spending the summer with us as an agronomy intern. Cody is a sophomore at the University of Idaho, double majoring in Agriculture Education and Animal Science Production. This summer, she is collecting soil and petiole samples from the potatoes and conducting corn stand assessments. These assessments involve measuring a designated area and counting how many corn plants are within that space. So far, her favorite aspects have been working outdoors, doing something she loves, and feeling at home around potatoes. After graduation, she hopes to teach high school agriculture, with a specific focus on an animal science pathway or working in beef production. We wish you a great summer, Cody!

She has also worked in reproduction, the hospital, milking parlor, and nutrition, gaining insights into the samples and tests the team conducts. So far, her favorite part has been working in Maternity on her project. Meaghan has also enjoyed learning new skills, such as administering IVs, pills, and palpating. • We are thrilled with the group of interns we have at the farm this summer! Follow along as we introduce each intern. First up in our intern series is Ariana, an incoming senior attending the University of Idaho. She is working towards a degree in Animal & Vet Science with a Pre-Vet Option. Ariana has already been at the farm for a few weeks and has been busy! She has spent time working with the calves in the hutches, focusing on nutrition, reproduction, and her research project that each dairy intern receives. When asked about her favorite part so far, she mentioned that all the hands-on opportunities have been her favorite, including learning how to perform an IV, administer vaccinations, and use new palpating techniques. We hope you have a great summer, Ariana. Thanks for being a part of the team!

  • Threemile General Manager of Farming, Greg Harris spoke to the Eastern Oregon Economic Summit in Hermiston last Friday, sharing how farming is evolving to be ever more climate-smart and sustainable. Technologies allow for precision application of water and nutrients, constantly monitored via a phone app. “Farmers are continually adapting. But none of this technology replaces the person in the field. Its still going to take a farmer to feed the world."
