Ever had a client ask, "Where do all these hours come from?" 😲 If you bill by the hour, you’ve likely heard this before. No one likes to justify their hours. ❌ From my experience, two ways help: 1. Don't charge by the hour ⌛ When I started charging for results, I kept my time records internally and never communicated my hours. Clients focused on what I delivered rather than how long it took. It worked, but it wasn't always easy or possible. 2. Create maximum transparency 📝 When I was billing by the hour, it helped me to be completely transparent so my clients could understand where the hours come from. Sharing my time reports was the easiest way to create that transparency. ✅ Just a few clicks with the right tool ✅ Eliminates the need for explanations ✅ I could charge for ALL my time Are you team 1 or 2? Time tracking is your friend. 🤝 Most people see time tracking as their enemy, and I understand why. As a freelancer, I felt the same way when I started to track my time. 😒 Logging hours felt like too much effort. 🤷♂️ Constantly reminding myself was annoying. 📊 I often forgot and had to estimate inaccurately. As a result, you quickly forget about the benefits: ✅ It helps you understand where your time goes. ✅ It helps you focus on what's important. ✅ It helps you get paid for your work. I think the main problem is the tools we all know. Most time tracking tools are too clunky and not fun to use. But it should be simpler, more effortless and more fun. Do you bill for your email time? 🤔 Last week, I shared insights from a study by Büro-Kaizen® that revealed office workers spend an average of 2 hours and 43 minutes on emails each day. With simple tricks like answering emails in blocks or trying to use max. 3 sentences you can massively reduce that time. But there was another aspect that got me into thinking: Even if you optimise a lot, you will still likely spend at least 2 hours per day on communication. And I think it’s important to emphasise that this is not generally a bad thing.   Communication is important and in many cases necessary to deliver great projects or provide excellent service to our customers. But how many actually track this time and take it into account? 🤔 I rarely hear that emails or phone calls are tracked. When I started my first freelance projects a few years ago, I didn't either. I thought: “It’s just a short email, not worth to record” 🤷 Until I had the feeling that it was adding up. It was much more than I had always estimated... The results were very close to the values from the study. Let’s do the math: • 200 days per year (Conservative, most of us probably work much more) • 2 hours per day (Let’s assume we are efficient) = 400 hours per year Let's calculate with a billed hourly rate of 100€. (Avg. hourly rate for freelancers in Germany) That's 40.000€ per year 🤯 Shouldn't our customers pay for it?

Save 27% of your e-mail time. We spend a lot of time with our e-mails. Office workers in Germany spend on average 2 hours and 43 minutes per day on their e-mails, according to a long-term study by Büro-Kaizen® and AKAD University. Some of this time feels wasted. That's why Marcel Miller, office efficiency expert from Büro-Kaizen®, had a question for his latest experiment: "What would happen if I answer all my e-mails in just 3 sentences?" He decided to use timeBuzzer to track the time spent on his emails. Experiment Results: Week 1: 166 emails, 220 minutes = 1,33 minutes/ per email Week 2: 189 emails, 184 minutes = 0,97 minutes/ per email That's 27% less! His recommendations: ✅ Keep your e-mails short (Aim for max 3. sentences) ✅ Answer your emails in blocks I've been trying to answer my emails in blocks 1-2 times a day for a while now and I'm also seeing a very positive effect. Büro-Kaizen® recently conducted an interesting experiment. As the average office worker in Germany spends 2 hours and 43 minutes a day on emails, Marcel Miller from Büro-Kaizen wanted to find out the effect of replying to all his emails in just 3 sentences. He chose timeBuzzer for the experiment because it allowed him to easily and quickly track the time he spent on all his emails. In week 1: He answered emails as usual In week 2: He answered emails with max. 3 sentences How much time do you think he saved? Watch their experiment now! When he started tracking the time spent on emails, he also realized that it was much more efficient to answer emails in blocks rather than as they came in. All in all, he saved 27% of his time on his emails.
