In the Summer 2024 issue of Weill Cornell Medicine's Impact Magazine, Town Hall Ventures Partner Dr. Meera Mani talks about how she puts her academic training into practice in our work on innovation for underserved communities - whether it's the importance of data-driven inquiry and creativity, of being on-site and deeply understanding patient and provider experiences, or of bringing more healthcare voices into investment decisions. Congrats to the Hopscotch Primary Care team on completing your Series C raise, in service of your important mission to provide exceptional healthcare in rural communities. Town Hall Ventures is delighted to continue to be your partner on this journey! These communities really need access to care, and the road ahead is wide open to scale Hopscotch Primary Care's model.
Hopscotch Primary Care, now serving over 15,000 people across 10 clinics, celebrates several key milestones this month. New Capital We are excited to announce the Company has closed a $50 million Series C raise, welcoming new investors aMoon Fund, Citi Impact Fund and Alumni Ventures with participation from existing investors 8VC, CVS Health Ventures, K2 HealthVentures and Town Hall Ventures. "At aMoon, our investments are driven by our mission to accelerate cure and help people live longer, happier lives. To that end, we are excited to support Hopscotch in their efforts to provide better access to care in underserved, rural communities," said Dr. Yair Schindel, Managing Partner at aMoon Fund, of their participation in the round. Dr. Schindel will join Hopscotch’s Board of Directors and bring unique skills and experience working alongside seasoned value-based care investors and operators with firsthand experience building and scaling best-in-class healthcare companies, including Oak Street Health, TAG - The Aspen Group and Oxeon. Leadership Transition We are deeply grateful for Kristin Myers’ leadership as Chief Executive Officer. Her passion for rural health and advancing new care models that create better provider and patient relationships has been core to her leadership. After three years as the founding CEO, she has made the decision to step down. She will remain in an advisory role to the company. With her transition, Andrew James will continue in his role as Chief Financial Officer and lead the Company on an interim basis as we evaluate candidates for Kristin’s successor. Dr. Thirath Chau, the Company’s Chief Medical Officer, continues to leverage his prior Oak Street experience and deliver clinical excellence across all clinics. Hopscotch also welcomes new leadership to the team - David Thurlow as Chief Operating Officer and Dave Miller as Market President. They both bring a wealth of experience in value-based care and operational excellence at companies of scale. Their combined experiences at Community Medical Services, Enlivant, DaVita Kidney Care, ChenMed, Panoramic Health, Bain & Company and the US Navy position Hopscotch well for this next phase of growth. The Opportunity Ahead With fresh capital and a growing team, we are expanding access to high-quality care in rural communities where the population is vast (35% of U.S. residents living outside large metros) and severely underserved with poor outcomes (25% more likely to die from five leading causes of death than urban counterparts). Hopscotch already is delivering a differentiated patient experience and quality outcomes, with an average 88 NPS and 4.5 Star rating across initial clinics in their first year. While we are proud of our success to date, our greatest potential and impact lies ahead. These milestones are just the beginning for the next phase of growth and opportunity ahead. https://lnkd.in/eqcdjP3H

Last year, 1 in 10 teens attempted suicide. It almost never starts there. Instead, it begins with a mild or moderate, treatable mental health issue. Structural features in our healthcare system render it virtually impossible for teens to get the help they need. Between acute provider shortages and low insurance participation, kids have no access to timely, effective care. And without treatment, symptoms that were once mild can rapidly devolve. Meet Marble Health: Our mission is to increase access to timely, preventative care for all teens. Marble accepts all insurance plans, including Medicaid, and offers virtual care with an emphasis on group therapy. No insurance holdups. No waitlists. I’m thrilled to announce that Marble has raised 5M in funding from Khosla Ventures, Town Hall Ventures, IA Ventures, with participation from Rex Woodbury at Daybreak, Lorimer Ventures, and strategic advisors, including the CEO of Rightway, among others. Tackling the teen mental health crisis requires an exceptional team. If you’re interested in joining us, we’d love to hear from you. We’re hiring across the board.

The kids are not all right. Sadly, since the pandemic, we are facing a national emergency in youth mental health. Today, nearly 1 in 5 youth have a behavioral health disorder (CDC), which has been compounded by the effects of social media, social isolation from COVID-19, and environmental stressors out of their control - climate change, political volatility, school violence, and more. For the last several years, we've been following state and federal governments as they've made multi-billion dollar commitments to expand youth mental health services, starting in schools. To translate these dollars into better outcomes for children and adolescents, especially those from low-income backgrounds, we believe we have to solve two fundamental problems. First, creating efficiencies to make the most of the very limited supply of high quality clinicians. Second, making it easier for teachers and guidance counselors - who are already overburdened - to help their students, regardless of background or ability to pay. When Jake Sussman and Daniel Ross told us these were the same problems they wanted to tackle next after building Headway, we couldn't have been more thrilled to support them. They'll be starting right in our backyard, in the same NY public schools where Jake taught. "Ever since the pandemic, our nation has become aware of the crisis of kids experiencing mental health challenges. Marble, with support getting started from Town Hall, is doing something about it. Led by a former teacher and pioneer in mental health, Marble is already bringing badly needed expert mental health support to kids and their schools," says Town Hall Ventures General Partner Andy Slavitt.
