When Nancy Hodges relocated to Cincinnati, finding a team of doctors to manage her complex medical conditions was a priority. With a history of battling rheumatoid arthritis, Nancy's doctor urged her to continue her care at UC Health. Since then, Nancy has received exceptional care from a dedicated team of doctors who have supported her through multiple surgeries, including a transformative back surgery by Dr. Rani Nasser that corrected a disabling scoliosis diagnosis. Now 80 years old, Nancy embraces life fully, enjoying activities like gardening, regular exercise, and fulfilling a bucket-list trip to Greece—all made possible by the personalized, expert care provided by UC Health. Today, as we open the doors to the first patients at the Blood Cancer Healing Center, we honor those who have inspired us. We are grateful to begin this journey together, celebrating the hope and healing ahead. Two years ago, William Johnson came to Dr. Byrd and the University of Cincinnati Cancer Center team because he wanted the best care for his chronic lymphocytic leukemia. In partnership with his care team, he arrived at a treatment plan. William will visit the center regularly to monitor his ongoing treatment. "The new center is fantastic. It’s somewhere you can feel relaxed, at ease, and able to talk to someone…they pay attention to you as a person–not as a patient, but as a person.”

When 40-year-old Louis Sipe began exhibiting signs of a stroke, his 10-year-old son, David, sprung into action, calling 911. David's heroic act meant his dad was able to receive rapid, life-saving treatment upon arrival at UC Medical Center. Today, Louis has made a full recovery. When it comes to stroke, every single minute matters, so the team at UC Health wanted to recognize David's exceptional actions. This week, a crew from the UC Health mobile stroke unit, in partnership with Colerain EMS, returned to the scene to honor David with a personalized plaque. Way to go, David!
