In this post, we'll discuss a 3-step process to define your B2B target audience, including TAM, ICP, and personas. ➡ Total Addressable Market (TAM) is the total number of potential customers in the market. There are two ways to find TAM: bottom-up approach (manual research) and top-down approach (using third-party data). ➡Ideal Customer Profile (ICP) is a segment of the TAM that you will target. You can segment your TAM based on firmographics (company size, industry), demographics (job title), behavioral (what events they attend), and technographics (what software they use). ➡ Perona is a detailed profile of a specific buyer within your ICP. It includes their characteristics, attitudes, needs, concerns, and motivations. Personas are not static and should be updated as you learn more about your customers. ⤵ Here are the key points on how to find and understand your B2B target audience: 👉 Use a combination of bottom-up and top-down approaches to find your TAM. 👉 Don't jump to conclusions too quickly on which ICP is the most profitable. Let your data guide you and be prepared to refine your ICP over time. 👉 Your personas should be based on real-world data, not just guesswork.
