At the 2024 United Nations High-level Political Forum, the Sustainable Development Goals on climate and good governance are under review. With the Permanent Mission of Italy to the UN and the Permanent Mission of Uruguay to the UN, we brought together champions at a high-level event focused on the mutual benefits of #ClimateAction and peace, justice and strong institutions to advance sustainable development. At the gathering, UNDP Administrator Achim Steiner emphasized that to ramp up climate action, we need to focus on 3 key areas: ▪️ Balancing short-term political gains with long-term climate goals and involving citizens in decisions about their futures. When people are included and engaged, we get better climate solutions. ▪️ Strengthening national climate pledges, and involving everyone in the conversation. ▪️ Using laws and courts to support climate action. Sustainable development is not possible without strong partnerships, flexibility and agility to respond to emerging needs and crises, and investing in building and scaling up innovative solutions. Flexible and pooled thematic funding through our #FundingWindows helps us to do just that. In 2023, Funding Windows delivered $112 million in 119 countries, including 56 fragile contexts and 42 Least Developed Countries. This included supporting: ▪️ +69k people with income-generation and livelihood opportunities in 20 countries ▪️ +2.8k Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises and businesses and creating +9.4k short-term jobs in 8 crisis and fragile countries ▪️ +380k people with access to essential services in 13 countries ▪️ +40 initiatives, policies, and strategies to protect and promote civil society, inclusive spaces, and capacities for public dialogue in 20 countries Big thanks to continuing partners Denmark, Germany, Iceland, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, the Republic of Korea, Sweden, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom, as well as new partners who joined in 2023, the Czech Republic, France, and Malta.
