The Urban Assembly is committed to advancing students' economic and social mobility by improving public education.
About us
The Urban Assembly (UA) believes that a first class public education is a basic human right and that demography should not determine a young person’s destiny. The UA is committed to ensuring the social and economic mobility of students by advancing capacity to enhance student achievement, well-being, and preparation for postsecondary opportunities in all of its 23 schools. In partnership with the NYC Department of Education and hundreds of public, private and nonprofit partners, the UA currently serves over 9,000 students in small, subject-themed public middle and high schools across New York City, including seven Career and Technical (CTE) schools and three all-girls schools.

We were honored to host journalists from Klan Kosova, the largest private television channel in Kosovo, for a visit to The Urban Assembly Maker Academy to speak with students and teachers about how they are using AI in the classroom. Everyone agreed that AI is here to stay, and that is important to learn how to harness the technology in a way that saves time yet still allows us to use our creativity. We are so happy that the UA impact has reached Kosovo, and we're thrilled to share our model for the future of education with the world 🌍 . #Education #Tech #AI #LLMs #School #NYC #Kosovo

Photos in front of the boat simulator and inside the scuba gear closet can mean only one thing...a visit to Urban Assembly New York Harbor School! 🛥️ We were honored to have folks from Grantmakers for Thriving Youth, The Wallace Foundation, Greater Tacoma Community Foundation, and Lefkofsky Family Foundation come to the UA Harbor School this morning to see innovation in public education: 8 CTE areas ranging from Vessel Operations and Aquaculture, to Marine Policy and Welding. Students were excited to show us the underwater robotics projects that they had been working on that are designed to navigate obstacles and retrieve items underwater in spaces that are inaccessible to divers! This is what innovation in public education is all about. Always forward! #Education #CTE #Careers #School #Teachers #WorkBasedLearning

BIG NEWS! The Urban Assembly School for Emergency Management is changing its name to The Urban Assembly Early College High School of Emergency Medicine, effective July 1st, 2024. The UA school was recently awarded a $2.46 Million PTECH grant by the New York State Education Department and Governor Kathy Hochul. With this grant comes an exciting partnership with the largest healthcare provider in New York State, Northwell Health. The grant will enable the school to establish a tuition-free Associates degree program in Paramedicine at the Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC), expanding the existing EMT program at UASEM. With these changes in mind, school stakeholders came together to come up with a new name and logo for the school. We are so excited for the future of UA Emergency Medicine! #education #nyc #schools #nycdoe #teachers #students #medicine
