Wayoh Interview Tips & Techniques, Part III Prepare your introduction: Not all interviews will require you to give an introduction, but some will and if you're not ready this will start off your interview on the wrong foot. The interviewer is simply wanting to find out a little about you, both personally and professionally. Information to share should include: - Your location, this will not always seem relevant, but common ground can be found in your location (you never know where they have family, friends or love to visit) - Talk about your current role and responsibilities (think about what YOU specialize in and what makes you invaluable to your team), this is a quick win and a way for you to emphasize what you do for your current company and how important you are, fi you are not in a role just explain what you did in your last role. - Have you been promoted in recent years? If so, make sure you explain this and the reason for it and what it meant to your role. Hiring Managers will want to know that they are talking with someone who they can see growing in their role and who shows clear value to an employer. - Do you manage people or have you lead on projects? Everyone wants to hear that the interviewee can be responsible and can take ownership of people, initiatives or projects. - End the introduction with a brief on why you're looking to move on and why this role excites you, this will move the interview ahead positively and ensure the interviewer knows that you're serious about this opportunity.

Wayoh Interview Tips & Techniques, Part II Read the Job Description: You wouldn't believe how many people turn up to interviews and have not read the actual description of the role, or did not read it within a day of the interview. Read the full description and be sure to make notes on the expectations and responsibilities so that you can share recent examples. As a general rule, most job descriptions highlight the main responsibilities in the first 3-5 bullet points and will always state requirements with a general outline on years' of experience in certain roles and with added qualifications, but do not let this information knock your confidence. You are interviewing because multiple people believe YOU CAN DO THIS JOB based on YOUR EXPERIENCE. It is, however, up to you to ensure you relay your experiences as they align to this job to the interviewer.

Wayoh Interview Tips & Techniques, Part I Have you carried out research on the Interviewer(s) and Company? Learn about the company's history, mission, values, products or services, and recent news or developments, this information can typically be found on their website or social platforms (LinkedIn usually). When looking on Linkedin be sure to see if you have any mutual connections currently at the company, whether you have a relationship with this person or not, you should reach out to state that you are interviewing for a role and ask for some advice and insight into the company, people usually oblige. Glassdoor can be helpful, but be careful as this site is known to attract only those who had a negative experience (if you do see anything specifically alarming, speak with your recruiter before the interview). Asking questions at the end based on this research will only be a good thing. Look up the Interviewer on LinkedIn, your recruiter will likely have shared this but if not, a quick search will take you to their page. Information you'll need includes their tenure and current role, previous employers, credentials and maybe you'll see some information to start the call with around their interests or shared connections. If you are meeting with someone and do not have their information, it is a good thing to state that you tried to find their profile but couldn't, perhaps they are not online or have a hidden profile, this in itself may lead to a warm conversation as they will likely tell you about themselves!
