Attending #NYTechWeek was a fantastic experience. Here are some of the highlights: Networking with Founders and Funders: Had a fantastic morning breakfast hosted by Republic where I got to connect with folks building incredible companies. There were some amazing founders in the room with huge missions and I'm excited to see them build. Eye-Opening Panel on Delegation: Went to a panel hosted by Double about why founders struggle to delegate (didn't think I needed this advice, but turns out I did). Hearing the panelists' experiences gave me great food for thought on how I'm spending my own time, what pieces of my daily work can be delegated, and how to improve some of our processes here at Worth Search. But honestly, the best part was the optimism buzzing around the NY Tech ecosystem. So many talented people with incredible ideas. It was awesome to get out of the office (aka my house) and meet some of these folks. Proud to be a small part of the NY Tech community for over a decade! What were some of your favorite moments from #NYTechWeek? Curious to hear more about people's experiences and also from anyone who hosted an event. Did you all find value in hosting?

Worth Search turned 5 years old last week! Our dog, Hugo, turned 5 years old this week! These birthdays are separated by only four days. You might be doing the math in your head and realizing that starting a new company + getting a new puppy a few weeks later = a lot of hard work. Building Worth has been an overall joy, filled with a ton of hard work, lots of successes, and some failures too. I'm grateful first and foremost for the team (past and present). I value every single one of you and all the work you've done to make this company what it is. Thank you! I'm also incredibly grateful for our amazing clients and candidates with whom we get to work day in and day out. Thanks for being a part of the ride, and we're excited to continue building with you and for you. Helping to raise Hugo has been an overall joy filled with a ton of hard work, lots of successes, and some failures too. If you've worked with us, you know that everyone at the company's Slack picture is of dogs (real original, right? 🤣 ). Of course, my Slack pic is of Hugo. I'm insanely grateful for him, and life would be a lot different/worse without him. So, to celebrate these milestones, here are a couple of pictures of us over the years. We've both got a touch of gray in our beards now, but that just makes us better at what we do, right?

As a hiring manager, one of my best hires ever had "Funemployed" listed on their resume, detailing the places they traveled during an intentional career break. Too often, we look down on resume gaps, viewing them as red flags. But what if we saw them as signs of self-awareness and work-life balance? The "funemployed" individual I hired came back refreshed, energized, and hungrier than ever. They had taken time to recharge, explore new horizons, and gain a fresh perspective – qualities that made them a valuable asset. Instead of liabilities, career breaks could indicate someone knows when to pause and how to return strong, avoiding burnout. We should give credit to those self-aware enough to take breaks. These individuals likely return with renewed purpose, a broader worldview, and deeper career appreciation. We're seeing a lot of candidates right now who were laid off taking extra time off before starting their job search. Being laid off is hard and stressful, and I commend these folks for taking the extra time to make sure they are fully committed and ready to join their next organization. So, don't immediately dismiss a resume gap. Consider the possibility the candidate used that time wisely to become a more well-rounded, effective professional. What are your thoughts on career breaks?

We recently had our Q1 Volunteer Week - a week in which every Worth Search employee commits a couple of hours to help out a local organization. This time is very fulfilling, we love coming back to work and sharing volunteering stories (and pictures)! Lindsey Markel shared a bit about her recent experience, “I volunteered with Heal the Bay for their Nothin' But Sand March 2024 Beach Cleanup at Toes Beach in Playa del Rey, CA. I filled up a 5 gallon bucket with various types of trash (microplastics, water bottle caps, cigarette butts, chip bags, straws, etc.) in less than 30 minutes which was pretty shocking. This is my local beach that I spend a ton of time at during the summer so it felt even more rewarding contributing to its clean up. This was my second time volunteering with Heal the Bay and certainly not the last!”

Get to know Christian Fabros, our VP of Recruitment! ◀ What did you do before joining Worth Search? Most recently I was the Head of Recruiting at Glossier, Inc. where I was responsible for all of their tech, business, and retail hiring. Before that, I worked with Nolan Greenberg at Compass where I led business recruiting for both our corporate and regional offices. ◀ What is your role at Worth Search?  VP of Recruiting, I focus on all G&A and Product roles. ◀ What keeps you at Worth Search? The ability to continue to still be hands-on with recruiting (something that often gets lost in senior internal roles), particularly because I get to work with companies of all shapes and sizes on a wide variety of roles. ◀ Nolan gives you the day off. How do you spend your day? You'll find me playing tennis and hanging with my dog (pictured below!) ◀ Dream remote work location? Sutton Place, NYC 😉

The Upside of Churn and Taking the Long View At our company, we've experienced our fair share of client churn over the years. Particularly in the last 18 months, we've seen client churn through the days of hiring freezes and layoffs. Inevitably, there are times when hiring slows down for our clients and they don't have open roles for us to work on. It can be disheartening to see the end of a client engagement but when one door closes, another opens! I try to take a long-term perspective and see the potential upside in these situations. When one client winds down, it creates an opportunity for us to connect with new founders, hiring managers, and companies in need of our services. We get to make new connections and forge new partnerships. This is one of the most fun/rewarding parts of the job. The hiring cycle is constantly shifting and evolving. Companies that may churn today could very well re-engage with us down the road when their hiring needs pick back up. In fact, we've already welcomed back a handful of clients this year after a hiatus including two in the last two weeks (maybe the market is improving?!). They remembered the great experience we provided previously and were eager to renew our relationship. Churn can be reframed from a negative into a positive - a chance to diversify our client base, explore new industries and roles, and plant seeds for future partnerships. At Worth Search, we can nimbly adapt to the ebb and flow of hiring markets. At the end of the day, our goal is to deliver an exceptional experience to clients at every stage of the engagement lifecycle. With a service-centric approach and commitment to value, Worth will continue to bring new roles, clients, and referrals that drive our growth over the long run. What's your perspective on the upside potential in client churn? I'd love to hear your thoughts!

Meet our CEO, Nolan Greenberg! Find out his dream remote work spot, hint: there's pasta 🍝 ◀ What did you do before starting Worth Search? I worked at Compass for 5.5 years. I led Recruiting for 5 years and in my last 6 months there I worked on technology acqui-hires. ◀ What is your role at Worth Search?  Founder and CEO - I am focused on engineering and leadership recruiting and managing our amazing team and company! ◀ What keeps you at Worth Search? The team and the work, and, I think it would be kind of weird if I didn't work at the company I started :)?! In all seriousness, I love the team we have here. Everyone is motivated to do great work and help one another. While we're a remote team, I think each of us really cares about the success of our teammates. I also still love to recruit. I love speaking with our clients and candidates. One of my favorite parts of the job is helping our team close deals with candidates and clients! ◀ Nolan gives you the day off. How do you spend your day? Ooof, I wish I was better at giving myself days off. That is a work in progress. That said, when I get days off, I want to spend them with Lauren (wife), Jaxson (our 2.5yr old son), and Hugo (our dog, he's a vizsla). We often go to a beach near us that has a playground for Jax and Hugo can run free and play some fetch. Seeing them happy is the most important thing to me. ◀ What other career path would you have taken if you weren't in recruiting?  I think the easy/boring answer is a sales job. Recruiting is sales in many ways so that's not too different, but I do love the thrill of a sale or of closing a deal in recruiting. To go in a different direction, I have a hospitality degree and still love hotels and restaurants and learning what makes them tick. That is still an area I think about a lot. ◀ Dream remote work location? Various places in Italy!
