Thank you First Horizon Bank for partnering with the YMCA and supporting kids across western North Carolina. The Y's Youth Leaders joined First Horizon last week for a special luncheon to learn about banking. The team from First Horizon shared their experiences growing up and going to school, and our students shared their hopes and dreams. Camp fun was had as well, as the kids taught the adults a camp song and played group games.

We're proud to participate in The PorchLight Project. This is a collaborative initiative of the Buncombe County Family Justice Center (FJC) partner agencies Helpmate and Our Voice. The project aims to create a network of local businesses that have agreed to present themselves as a place for survivors of Intimate Partner Violence and/or Sexual Violence to have access to a phone to contact services and to have a place to wait for services to respond. Our Ys in Buncombe County will provide a place for someone to call the PorchLight hotline and access resources. Learn more here: bit.ly/3RTmiV3

Our YMCA is dedicated to welcoming all and to addressing critical social issues. In that spirit, we share this article about the role the Y plays in bridging divides and helping people connect.
Opinion: The regular people who worked at my local YMCA showed me how every day institutions can bridge divides and level the playing field, writes Eboo Patel. https://bit.ly/3Vuqxar YMCA of the USA (National Resource Office)

Juneteenth, celebrated on June 19th, celebrates the emancipation of those who were enslaved—two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation. To celebrate, the Y invites you to learn more about this day of freedom! #Juneteenth #YForAll

Our facilities are closed today to observe Juneteenth, the day news of the Emancipation Proclamation reached Texas in 1865. It's an opportunity for us to reflect on what it means to be free, show support for the Black community, and be part of important conversations about equity. We encourage you to participate in local events and activities commemorating this important day.
