Migrate to the new Community Management API

As B2B marketers strive to establish enduring connections with their target audiences, building and growing a professional community on LinkedIn has become a high priority. Marketers are working harder than ever to create and maintain a dynamic presence on the platform, and they need the right tools to do this efficiently.

We know that your products form an integral part of the community management experience for many marketers. We recognize that developing innovative features and providing useful insights, that help your customers achieve their objectives on the LinkedIn platform, is essential to your value proposition. This is why we’re committed to expanding our API capabilities, so you can continually enhance your product offerings. As a first step, we’re launching a new Community Management API, separate from our advertising APIs.

The Migration

All community management partners have to migrate to this new API by June 30, 2023, in order to keep your community management integration active and your customers’ workflows uninterrupted. Your access to our advertising APIs via the legacy API product will remain unchanged.

You’ll need to create a new developer app and complete a new application and developer vetting process; we’ve expanded our access requirements and added more rigor to the vetting, in order to uphold our member trust principles and further protect member data.

To ease the migration process, we’ve created a guide that outlines each step.

The New Experience

The launch of the new API will also accelerate our push to release more features that boost your customers’ efforts to know and grow their audiences. When you migrate to the new API, you will be well-positioned to take advantage of new features, as they become available, building on the robust solutions already at hand. Just in the last year, we’ve enabled several features to strengthen your product offering for specific customer objectives.

Engaging in conversations around a brand:

  • Enable brands to @mention members in text, image or video posts, for richer conversation, using our new People Typeahead API, available solely via the new Community Management API.
  • Use webhooks to provide real-time alerts for new Page activities, such as new comments and mentions of a brand, to facilitate quick responses.
  • Enable greater control of conversations with the ability to edit page comments.

Building a brand presence:

  • Create new avenues for engagement, with new formats including polls and multi-image posts
  • Attract a wider audience with video by enabling caption and custom thumbnail uploads.

Amplifying the reach of organic activities:

  • Boost organic content - transform into light-weight ad campaigns - to gain awareness among new audiences.

The new Community Management API will create pathways to several other exciting developments. It will eliminate complexity - making it simpler to know which permissions are available to you and which use cases are supported - giving you the ability to provide even more value to your customers. The best part is that nothing will change for your customers. All they will need to do is consent to new permissions for your application, once you have migrated.

Next Steps

Before you submit your request to access the new API, review the migration guide. As a reminder, you must complete the migration by June 30, 2023.
