Petrochemicals producer and distributor Sidi Kerir Petrochemicals Co. (Sidpec) has announced the formation of a consortium to import US shale gas to Egypt. SIDPEC will hold a 25% stake in the $663-million consortium, set to be established later this year. According to the announcement, 40% of the initiative's financing will come from shareholders within the consortium, while 60% will be secured through bank loans. The consortium includes the The Egyptian Ethylene & Derivatives Company - ETHYDCO and Derivatives Company (25%), construction contractor Gama Construction Company (25%), refining company Egyptian Petrochemicals Holding Company: ECHEM Company (15%), and Egypt's state-owned Egyptian Natural Gas Company (GASCO) Gas Company (10%). Algeria and Chevron update! Chevron has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Algerian state oil and gas company, Sonatrach, to develop hydrocarbon resources in Algeria's Ahnet and Berkine Basins. The companies will enter discussions that could conclude with a production sharing contract award based on the new 2019 hydrocarbon law. Conventional and unconventional gas is the target. This follows ExxonMobil signing a Heads of Agreement to develop hydrocarbon resources in the Ahnet and Gourara basins in May and TotalEnergies signing a MoU for the appraisal and development of gas resources in the North-East Timimoun region in April. We expect more announcements as the Majors, including Eni, Shell, and Equinor, look to invest in Algeria’s material gas potential.

Our industry is evolving rapidly, and embracing the digital era is no longer an option—it is a necessity. In my presentation, I will delve into strategies that leverage data, simulation, and advanced techniques to not just optimize reservoir performance and maximize recovery but also to shape the future of our industry. Egypt- Mauritania: Go gas and Taqa Egyptian investors will invest $1.3 billion to develop gas offshore Mauritania Taqa Arabia-Go Gas consortium plans to bring long-dormant Banda gas field on stream in 2027 Mauritania’s government has approved a draft decree that will allow an Egypt-based consortium to become the latest operator to try to commercialise 1.2 trillion cubic feet of gas held in the challenging Banda discovery offshore Mauritania. Gas production is slated to start in 2027, feeding up to 80 million cubic feet per day of gas to an existing 180-megawatt dual-fuel power plant in Nouakchott, while consideration will be given to building an additional 120 MW to 240 MW combined cycle plant.

In this era of dying need of Hydrocarbon resources (specially Oil), #Enhanced_Oil_Recovery (EOR) techniques has arrived as a protagonist in recent history largely encompassing the principles to extract oil from geological reserve which cannot be extracted through conventional methods. Three #major_categories_of_EOR lies on: 1)Thermal Method: Applies heat inside the pore throat to increase the reservoir flowability. 2)Gas Method: Easily dissolves in oil which can improve the recovery rate by decreasing viscosity. 3)Chemical Method: Long Chain Polymers are used as a dispersing medium within the targeted fluid. All the categorical approaches have their own disadvantages. Some may cause possible formation damage, and some may cause chemical losses. However, the use of #Nanoparticles in EOR Technology have shown some very effective and extraordinary results in recent times. Nanoparticles has a size range of 0.1-100 nanometer approximately. #Benefits_of_using_nanoparticles could be: *A very formidable size range of 1-100 nm which is thousand times less than micro range in pore sizes. * Very high surface to volume ratio which increases the proportion of atoms on NP surface. *Less expensive, good for environment. Nanoparticles are used in form of: Nanofluids, Nano emulsions, Nano catalysts. ***#Nanofluids are base fluid with Nanoparticles having average size of 100 nm in colloidal suspension. EOR mechanism of Nanofluid accelerates by Disjoining Pressure, Pore channels plugging, Viscosity increase of injection fluids, Interfacial Tension Reduction, Wettability alteration. ***#Nano_emulsions are kind of emulsions that are stabilized by NPs. It is a kinetically controlled system that can retain their morphology with change in oil volume fraction. Highly viscous nano emulsion controls mobility ratio during the flush. ***#Metal_nano-catalysts are used during steam injection in heavy oil reservoirs. Can be used upgrading in heavy oil reservoir converting bitumen to lighter products by some chemical reactions. #Challenges_opportunities_and_drawbacks for further research: *Preparation of Nanoparticles because they always tend to aggregate at the result of strong van-der-waals interactions under harsh conditions. *Nanofluid flooding process has been a lionshare research activity in this sector so far. *This research has lack of suitable theoretical investigation and mathematical models as of now.

I worked in Gulf of Suez Petroleum Company or GUPCO in Egypt from 1988 to 2001. This great company still in 2023 has proven remaining oil reserve as shown in the attached file 443-445 MMBO, which can produce average reserve oil rate in 2023 around 133 MBOPD, while the oil production rate in 2023 was around 56 MBOPD or -77 MBOPD below the average rate. The strange here Dragon Oil Company plan is reaching by this company to produce daily oil rate from 68-73 MBOPD only. As shown also in the last slide, this company has possible undrained remaining oil reserve around 130 MMBO, which can rise the average reserve oil rate to 172 MBOPD or 100 MBOPD above Dragon oil plan. This reserve extension can be 1- Bypassed oil behind the water front from aquifer or water injection. 2- Correction for OOIP and Oil Recovery factor. 3- Communications through conductive faults. Beside the above, GUPCO has around 600 MMBO heavy oil OOIP in October field in Northern part from GOS since 1977 without any development yet. We expect really effective and honest investments to develop GUPCO remaining oil reserve. GUPCO is just example from many examples in Egypt companies are producing low oil rate, while remaining oil reserves allow to increase the oil production rate to stop the oil importing and also for oil exporting as I showed many posts about that before.

Excited to share a recent collaboration with Youssef Mahmoud where we tackled the challenge of optimizing pipeline design in chemical engineering for minimum cost. Using Python and machine learning techniques, specifically linear regression, we developed an equation that calculates the optimum diameter of a cold pipeline, ensuring cost-effectiveness: D_optimum = 0.277 * (Q)^0.441 * (ρ)^0.113 * (μ)^0.037 Where: D_optimum is diameter (inch) Q is the flow rate (m3/hr) ρ is density (kg/m3) μ is viscosity (c.p) This innovative approach not only enhances efficiency but also paves the way for more sustainable industrial practices. Algeria exploration alert! ExxonMobil has signed a Heads of Agreement with the Algerian state oil and gas company, Sonatrach, to form a partnership to develop hydrocarbon resources in Algeria's Ahnet and Gourara basins. The companies may enter discussions that could conclude with the award of production sharing contracts based on the new 2019 hydrocarbon law. I will be speaking at the 3rd International Scientific and Technical conference titled "Chemical Enhanced Oil Recovery Methods: Challenges Facing the Petroleum Industry", which will be held on May 29-31, 2024, Kazan, Russia, and would welcome your valued attendance at my session. The report title is "Full-Field Polymer Flooding Project – Principles and Challenges at the Kalamkas Oilfield." The Kalamkas oilfield is one of the largest brownfields in Kazakhstan and has a 45-year development history, and it still has the potential to make a valuable contribution to Kazakhstan’s oil production. Polymer flooding (PF) is supposed to be the most effective technique to reveal this potential since the first pilot projects in 80’s conducted. Nowadays, when new explorations are expensive, the application and expansion of such technologies are critical to field development. This article presents the main features of modern polymer flooding implementations. The current experience of PF pilot projects and lessons learned at the Kalamkas oilfield provide a strong foundation for future extension strategy. Full-field polymer flooding project at the Kalamkas oilfield is expected to be one of the largest chemical EOR projects in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) despite harsh water conditions (~130 g/l salinity) compared to other projects such as Daqing, Mangala, Marmul, and Pelican Lake. #conference #eor #science #polymerflood #oil
