Last week, Anne had to travel a little further than usual to go to the office 🇺🇸 Since ebp Global, whom we are a proud part of, has become a member of the American Apparel & Footwear Association (AAFA), we now have the opportunity to participate in their events and conferences. So, along with Keith and Nanda from ebp, she went to the AAFA Global Supply Chain & Trade Conference in Portland, Oregon. There were a bunch of different speakers and topics covered. While on the topic of sustainability, one speaker mentioned that in his company they have decided that the best way to be compliant in the USA is to meet EU regulations. There are two reasons for this: One, different states are doing different things, and two, they are mostly copying the EU. Good article on Puma outlined by Ken Pucker on how they were able to decouple increased growth from lowering emissions. Impressive data that since 2017, Puma has doubled revenues to $9.3 billion, while cutting carbon emissions by 30%. On a per unit basis, that is a 66% reduction. At my last company, I created a model to show that the consolidation of markets, with a calendar adjustment could reduce emissions by 18% allowing a reduction in carbon emissions and creating a savings from air to sea freight alone. This is one of the highest impact adjustments companies can make to really lower emissions.

As evenings last longer and the temperature rises lightweight, durable, moisture-wicking, and expandable garments are key for summer sports. Compression apparel meets all of these needs and more; often used during the season by runners, triathletes, cyclists, etc. Compression garments can expand beyond their original size when being used and still maintain the original shape and form afterward. Not just any ink can meet the performance demands of such a flexible garment. Having a team of experienced printers is always valuable, particularly when using silicone ink. Silicone ink can be very tricky to use but unlike other inks, it can expand with the material while maintaining the integrity of the design. Here at Wee's Tees, we do our best to meet our customer needs. Being able to successfully print with silicone ink is one of many ways that we rise to the occasion.

Kevin Latner , Leather and Hide Council of America (L&HCA) Vice President - Sustainability, presented the preliminary findings of the U.S. cowhide production Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) at the recent Economist Impact Sustainability Week summit in London. The event, now in its ninth year, is attended by industry leaders from aroung the world. The L&HCA discussed leather’s sustainability with representatives of companies from Boston Consulting Group to Ford Motor Company. Speaking during a panel discussion on sustainable supply chains, Kevin Latner said: “We were pleased to see that processing of hides, a natural waste material, delivers a low carbon footprint. The new data shows that leather is a renewable, sustainable material and suggests that it is better for the environment than oil-derived synthetics.” “It also shows the challenges and opportunities ahead for the textile industry in pursuit of our shared environmental goals for the planet. The industry needs to publish credible and transparent data to inform discussions, to understand supply chain issues and to enable businesses and consumers to make informed purchase decisions with standard metrics. The AutoFlamm Flammability Tester meets the needs of those testing general apparel fabrics and vertically oriented fabrics to European standards. These include home textiles such as curtains or drapes, bedding, table clothes and other items that hang downward. Additionally, the AutoFlamm meets EN 71-2: Safety of Toys - Part 2.
