You’ve been in Enterprise Software for years. What’s the most important lesson you wish you’d learned sooner?
The most important lesson I wish I had understood at the very start of my consulting career would be this: you must know your customer's business better than they know it themselves. You need to understand exactly how they make money. What costs them money. If you aren't working on a project that moves the needle on making money or saving money, then you are wasting your customer's money. If you are wasting your customer's money, you have to fire your customer or you will find yourself fired. If you fire your customer, they will often give you an opportunity to show them how you can help them make or save money. When you do, you become a trusted advisor. In the world of consulting, that is the place you want to be.

How can you set effective deadlines for your team?
Acknowledge that setting realistic deadlines is not just a matter of efficiency, but also of respecting team members’ time and workload. Create an environment where it’s safe to voice concerns or doubts. Involve the team in setting deadlines. Make it a collaborative process where everyone’s input is valued and considered. This approach not only leads to more realistic deadlines but also fosters a sense of ownership and commitment among team members. Establish a feedback loop where you continuously gather input on the project’s progress and adjust deadlines if necessary. This keeps the communication channel open and ensures that the project adapts to any unforeseen changes or challenges.

What is the role of CI in mobile app deployment?
Continuous Integration (CI) is a development practice that is central to modern software development workflows, including mobile app deployment. Its primary role is to streamline and automate the process of integrating changes from multiple contributors into a single software project, which can be particularly challenging in mobile app development due to the variety of platforms and devices. Done right, you can avoid the "works on my device" problem that crops up in this space due to the need to support many different devices.

More iPhone Development with Objective-C is an independent companion to Beginning iPhone Development with Objective-C. That is, it is a perfect second book, but it is also a great book for those looking to improve their skills who have already programmed for iOS. In particular it includes a series of chapters devoted to Core Data, the standard for Apple persistence. The authors carefully step through each Core Data concept and show techniques and tips specifically for writing larger apps—offering a breadth of coverage you won’t find anywhere else.
More iPhone Development with Objective-C covers a variety of other topics, including Multipeer Connectivity’s relatively simple Bluetooth/WiFi peer-to-peer model, MapKit, and media library access and playback so that your applications can utilize media on your users’ computer. You’ll also find coverage of Interface Builder, Live Previews and Custom Controls and some advanced techniques for debugging your applications. The book is filled with useful topics that will bring your programs up-to-date with the new functionality built into iOS.Other authorsSee publication -

.NET 3.5 will help you create better Windows applications, build Web Services that are more powerful, implement new Workflow projects and dramatically enhance the user's experience. But it does so with what appears to be a collection of disparate technologies. In Programming .NET 3.5, bestselling author Jesse Liberty and industry expert Alex Horovitz uncover the common threads that unite the .NET 3.5 technologies, so you can benefit from the best practices and architectural patterns baked into this newest generation of Microsoft frameworks. While single-topic .NET 3.5 books delve into Windows Presentation Foundation and the other frameworks in greater detail, Programming .NET 3.5 offers a "Grand Tour" of the release that describes how the four principal technologies can be used together, with Ajax, to build modern n-tier and service-oriented applications. Developers have struggled to implement these patterns with previous versions of the .NET Framework, but this hands-on guide uses real-world examples and fully annotated source code to demonstrate how .NET 3.5 can make it easy.
