Marketing Operations Pro Tip: Power up your VLOOKUPs to save time and frustration! Before the final list import file, MOPs folks and marketers oftentimes find themselves wrestling data across multiple spreadsheets so here are some pro tips to power up your VLOOKUPs: 1. Defining Results More often than not we want to know whether or not the people (the email address) on our current spreadsheet, are on other spreadsheets. The classic VLOOKUP scenario but by using the combination of IF (ISNA) and a VLOOKUP give you the ability to easily run a pass/fail test. In layman's terms, we can say if this person is NOT found (error) give me this unique custom text (e.g. 'not found) but if they ARE found (no error) give me a different unique custom text (e.g. 'found'). Furthermore, if you make error = '1' and no error = '0', you can easily count how many matches were found simply by counting the column. EX: IF(ISNA(…), "text_if_error", "text_if_no_error") 2. Handling Returned Errors Just looking for a cleaner way to handle errors produced by your VLOOKUP? Add the IFERROR function before your VLOOKUP! If you'd like to replace the standard error returned (N/A) with custom text, you can type any text you want in the 2nd argument (value_if_error) (e.g. 'Unable to Find'). If you want to leave the value returned BLANK, just use "". Less is more. We've heard the phrase before, but how does it apply to your content? On the Content Amplified Podcast, Benjamin Ard interviewed Scott Kirkessner, M.Ed. to learn about his approach to getting more out of his content, but focusing on scaling it down. Here are 5 ideas to help you get more from less: 1) Simplicity Brings Maximum Impact “The best thing you can give a loan officer who desires more marketing support is to give them something that they didn’t think they needed at the time.” Start by focusing on delivering concise and impactful content. Instead of overwhelming your audience with too much information, give them just enough to spark their interest. This approach encourages them to reach out for more details, driving engagement and action. 2) Customize Content to Meet Audience Needs “Our goal is to make sure that we’re creating content that anticipates their needs.” Understand your audience’s preferences and tailor your content accordingly. Know what your audience expects and desires, and create personalized content that resonates with them. This strategy builds trust and loyalty among your clients, enhancing your brand’s relationship with them. 3) Utilize a Tiered Approach to Content Distribution “Less can also build to more. If you simply say, ‘Down payment assistance for X amount of dollars, call or text for more details,’ you’ve now created an opportunity for someone to reach out to you.” Use a tiered approach to distribute your content. Start with a simple social media post, followed by a more detailed email, and end with an informative landing page. This method keeps your audience engaged at every step and guides them towards taking the desired action. 4) Foster Collaboration and Feedback “We bounce ideas off each other all the time. Sometimes it’s like, is there really enough on this piece? Could we benefit by adding maybe one more sentence or taking one thing away?” Encourage collaboration and feedback within your team. Share ideas and seek input to refine your content. This collaborative approach ensures that your content is of high quality and effectively meets your audience’s needs. 5) Leverage Strategic Partnerships “If you leverage strategic partnerships and are really good at producing or utilizing the content on social media that’s given to you by your marketing team, your pieces really can be seen four times by the same person.” Strategic partnerships can significantly expand the reach of your content. By sharing content through various channels and leveraging your partners’ networks, you increase visibility and engagement.
