Absolutely Dr. Rajendra Kumar Ji! Your article rightly highlights the pressing need of doing faster research and adoption of AI technology in India. I agree with you that this is the high time to focus on the AI driven Governance for better delivery of welfare schemes and implementation of developmental agenda. We need to do more and must improve our ranking in this area. We also must be careful in adaptation as the processing of sensitive data by AI systems, such as health records or financial information, exposes organizations to significant risks like breaches and misuse. Securing data through robust encryption, access controls, and anonymization techniques is very crucial. Also, without a proper AI governance policy and clearly defined rules, there is an increased risk of ethical issues such as bias, discrimination and unfair treatment within AI systems. This lack of oversight may result in unintended consequences and reinforce societal inequalities.

WHAT IT WILL TAKE TO WIN An apt comparison for the current AI landscape is the primordial soup of late 90s e-commerce. Though tempting, it’s important not to crown AI winners too early. It will take several years (likely a decade) to determine the winners in each category. The stakes are high: the winner-takes-most nature of these spaces makes it so that the #1 player is valued at 10-100x the #2 player. And the prize for being the #3 player is likely death and irrelevance. What will it take to win a category? In addition to product and distribution excellence, which are table stakes, two things will determine the winners: 1. Multiple (4-5) major compounding innovations over a sustained time horizon (5-10 years). 2. Dozens (if not hundreds) of “minor” but critical platform-level innovations which enable both the major innovations as well as collectively improve the customer experience in subtle but powerful ways. In e-commerce, it took Amazon a decade-plus from its founding to firmly establish itself as the leader in US e-commerce, despite early and strong competition. (And it still is not the leader in most countries around the world). I count at least 5 major innovations:, along with countless improvements to the underlying technology and infrastructure, including selection, inventory management, logistics, fulfillment and customer service. V1 Books (1994) - Amazon launched as an online bookstore. V2 Ratings and Reviews (1996) - we underestimate how profound this was to increase trust in online commerce. V3 One-click checkout (1997) - the impact of this on loyalty and conversion was overshadowed by the fact that Amazon had filed a patent around this innovation. V4 Marketplace and third party sellers (2000) - massive selection and margin improvements, truly making it the Everything Store. it happened gradually, then suddenly. V5 Amazon prime (2005) - this was the hammer. Even at the five year mark (1999), Amazon’s viability was questioned (remember Amazon.bomb?) Only at the 11 year mark did we start recognizing them as the likely winner. In hindsight, one can now connect the dots between the launches and see how each innovation was enabled by all the ones that came before. tldr CEOs: If your company launches one innovative product and you think you’re “good”, you’re likely. not going to win the category. Be ready to have the resilience, stamina and capital to run a marathon comprised of 5+ sprints, each over 1-2 years, before you can even think about winning your category.

We are still in the early phase of enterprise generative AI and the signs are encouraging for companies to allocate more budget for pilot projects and production. The timing follows annual budget cycles. Of the CIOs surveyed by Morgan Stanley at the end of 1Q24: - 8% already having #AI projects in production - 38% will put projects into production in 2024 (most in 2H24) - 42% expect to be in production in 2025 and beyond. Customer support, various #marketing tasks, and software #programming assistance appear to be the dominant use cases across industries. Most enterprises are using available large language models (#LLM) without modification, and are working to overcome shortcomings like response accuracy, hallucinations, #data privacy, and cost. #generativeai #chatbot

Yann LeCun's critique of generative AI and advocacy for Objective-Driven AI is an interesting perspective from one of the great pioneers in the space. LeCun's critique underscores the limitations of current AI models, prompting a reevaluation of the direction of AI development. However, while he notes that models lack true intelligence and are subject to hallucinations, hallucination is what provides these models "creativity" that can be leveraged in other ways. #AI
