The pic shows the foundation got completely uprooted due to uplift by lateral wind forces.... As mentioned in my previous post, a detailed peer review of such structures considering all points mentioned in that post should be mandatory.. As an engineering job, the mishap could have been avoided, if... just a staiblity against overturning check would have been performed while designing.... However, I recommend complete engineering control over designing & construction is a must must...

LIQUEFACTION ANALYSIS! How do you consider Peak ground acceleration and magnitude for liquefaction analysis? Recently, I had debate on liquefactions for particular location in Noida region which is generally considered to be prone to liquefactions wherein purely sandy soils under submerged conditions, N values are less than 15 and with standard Mw value of 7.5 as per IS 1893. However, as per detailed analysis by one of the reputed IIT professor, considering the available micro zoning map wherein Mw as per last 50 years data has taken significantly lower for NCR region and according to considered parameters and the subsoil strata is not susceptible to liquefaction in the analysis. The Indian Association of Structural Engineers (IAStructE) is organizing an Online Refresher Course on “Planning, Design, & Construction Aspects of Pre Engineered Steel Buildings” from July 27, 2024, concluding on August 31, 2024. The lectures will be organized on every Saturday afternoon from 15:00 Hrs to 18:00 Hrs (IST) through Zoom webinar. This course aims to provide an in-depth understanding of various technical issues associated with planning, structural analysis, design, codes, material, connections, anchor bolts, fabrication, transportation & erections of PEB steel buildings. This course will be useful for all civil & structural engineers who are in anyway involved with PEB structures. Uneven Loading: Unequal distribution of weight from the building on the raft can cause it to tilt or settle more on one side. Construction Issues: Poor compaction of soil, inadequate curing of concrete, or foundation design flaws can contribute to differential settlement. Drainage Problems: Changes in moisture content of the soil due to leaks or poor drainage can lead to localized settlements. PA DEP continues to make a push to reduce the backlog of NPDES Construction Permits. Long the headache of developers and engineers, the timeframes of review by PA DEP have often been excruciatingly long. Originally a guarantee program was implemented but never seemed to improve turnaround times. Then DEP finally agreed to allow local Conservation Districts to hire engineers to review General Permits. Now, DEP is finally going to work with a select group of these existing Conservation Districts to review up to 3 Individual Permits per year. Bench strength in a consulting #civilengineering firm is about having a robust, versatile, and resilient team that can reliably deliver high-quality services across a broad spectrum of projects, ensuring the firm remains competitive and capable of growth. It is being prepared by having that "next man up" mentality. No matter how great and secure your staff seems to be, you MUST remain vigilant in preparing your next generation of leaders. Why? I've been recruiting #civilengineers for over two-and-a-half decades and no matter HOW SECURE things may seem with key executives/leaders in place...they can slip away, just like that. I've seen: 👉🏼Partners/Shareholders leave to start their own firms or work for another company (despite having non-compete agreements). 👉🏼Key leaders pass away unexpectedly. 👉🏼Strong leaders relocate in order to take care of aging parents. 👉🏼Executives butt heads due to changes in philosophies who are forced out or who voluntarily walk away. 👉🏼Cream of the crop Project Managers who perform at such high levels clients end up hiring them as a part of their internal team. Great leaders constantly develop the next great leaders in the firm. Don't fall for the trap in believing your most dedicated and loyal employees will never leave. As soon as you sit on your laurels is when you may find yourself high and dry.
