Harnessing Climate Finance for Rural Adaptation in the Lower Mekong Basin: Key Findings

This short paper highlights our program's key findings with regard to accessing climate financing for small rural adaptation projects in the Lower Mekong Basin. While early days of adaptation finance have often landed in urban settings tied to large infrastructure projects, the evolving financing landscape will soon open up more opportunities in the rural sector. This short paper highlights our program's key findings with regard to accessing climate financing for small rural adaptation projects in the Lower Mekong Basin. While early days of adaptation finance have often landed in urban settings tied to large infrastructure projects, the evolving financing landscape will soon open up more opportunities in the rural sector. The more national governments can demonstrate scale, strategically package their projects, and align them with their INDC's, the more successful they will likely be in tapping financing from entities such as the Green Climate Fund.

It details how the program worked from hands-on utility business/financial planning to leading a policy roundtable to working with commercial banks to establish the first utility credit-rating system in SE Asia.
