I recently had the privilege of representing Microsoft Shopping at Rakuten Optimism 2024 and came away with a lot of positive outcomes. To me, conferences are a lot about creating meaningful connections and learning. It was great to connect with our brands, agencies, partners and other publishers and learn from their journey on building value in the affiliate marketing ecosystem. Here are the 3 things I learned that I want to share 1)     Don’t treat what others have tried and failed as mistake – instead you can still attempt to do it using what they learned 2)     You learn a lot from those who compete in the same space. The shift towards viewing salary as merely a participation trophy in employment is alarming. Our world has grown so apathetic towards creating value for our teams, companies, and communities while relying on government support as the new normal; and if it is not changed now, it will be to our global detriment in the short and long term. It's time to wake up and embrace risks! Do that which is said can’t be done! Put in the hard work that others refuse to do even if it means risking everything! Turn your passion into your mission and your mission into reality! It won’t be easy, simple, or ordinary; but that is the beauty of all new things, the beauty of risk vs reward, and the beauty of global impact vs a guaranteed salary for the sake of existing. We must do better at being mentors and mentees, coaches and life long learners, accountability partners and bold visionaries. In the end, it will be worth it; but it takes all of us making a daily, conscious choice of being present and available to get the job done. #employment #valuecreation #risktaking
