The winners of Buffalo’s first annual Civic Innovation Challenge was revealed Wednesday. The competition asked local tech-savvy minds to create an app that would benefit city residents using information from the city’s Open Data Portal.

On Wednesday, Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown announced that the "The Good Neighbor app", designed by Clark Dever and Jordan Walbesser, as the winner of the inaugural Civic Innovation Challenge – Powered by AT&T.

In March, the city challenged software developers and coders to use the city's new open data portal to help the community.

The Good Neighbor app uses that data to help users find everything from the nearest police station to details on where to vote.

Buffalo, NY – Mayor Byron W. Brown today awarded the top prize in his inaugural Civic Innovation Challenge – Powered by AT&T, to the creators of Good Neighbor, a mobile phone-based app that gives residents easy access to key data on services provided by the City of Buffalo, Erie County and New York State, as well as local nonprofit organizations.
Good Neighbor co-developers, Clark Dever and Jordan Walbesser, were awarded a $5,000 check for their Grand Prize winning application.
