He's one of those people you don't realize is actually a genius until you work with him a while, because you're more likely to notice how kind and helpful he is first. He's one of those people that takes just a little longer to respond than you would think, until you come to realize it's because he's listening extra closely and thinking about the problem at a much deeper level than you expected (and maybe appreciating that joke even more that you thought he would). I haven't seen him run into a problem he couldn't figure out, all the while setting clear expectations for what will be involved and how long it's likely to take. Brilliant, kind, and disciplined in his work, he's on my shortlist of engineers to work with, and he should be on yours too. ”
