What are the characteristics of a high-performing board?
Oooo - what a simple and (seemingly) effective idea, Jack. A buddy system helps in so many ways, personalizing, guiding, building-in a cultural component. And I gotta believe it's helpful in both retention and recruitment; when we know we have unique support to BE a 'good board member", then we're much more likely to say yes when invited - or volunteer. I'm going to share this idea with the Exec's who work with boards. Thank you!

What are the characteristics of a high-performing board?
Meaning-full and purpose-full human connection is the bedrock to all of this. Are you focused on the common ground we all share? We will always have more in common than we have differences. Are you creating a safe space - literally, metaphorically, geographically, intellectually, emotionally - for discuss, curiosity, exploration? Are you modeling all of this as a leader or member? We will ONLY earn and nurture the bedrock of vital human connection if we are POW - Positive Objective Willing - to step up as our own self first. Everything else won't matter without it.

What are the characteristics of a high-performing board?
Precisely why we need to ditch the "like-minded" phrase and thinking, and replace it with "like-valued." If the intention is to create common ground (of which we have soooooo much), then aligning on values will ALWAYS be more meaningful, effective and yes - even fun - in building boards who are fired up and have agreed (perhaps even co-created) their positions to help the organization thrive.

How to Market Beer to Women: Don't Sell Me a Pink Hammer
The book — How to Market Beer to Women: Don't Sell Me a Pink Hammer — is a first-of-its-kind and valuable how-to book for the modern beer industry. The book’s insights are based on surveys Johnson conducted with female beer drinkers and Johnson’s eight years running Women Enjoying Beer, the nation’s only female-focused beer marketing company.
Johnson hopes the book will help fix a shortcoming in the beer industry.

“I wrote this book,” Johnson says, “because beer companies don’t completely & respectfully market beer to women. They are ridiculously overdue in realizing they must reach out to women with a dedicated effort. It's not about pinkifying – that's pandering. It's about acknowledging with full respect that you want female beer drinkers to be your customers.” -
