ARCTIC DEFENSE - Howard Altman - Allied Pact Aims To Close Yawning Icebreaker Gap With Adversaries - The U.S., Canada and Finland have a new plan to boost production of icebreakers critical in the increasingly important Arctic region. - In an ambitious effort to counter Chinese and Russian influence in the High North, the U.S., Canada and Finland have created a resource-pooling plan to help meet a projected demand for as many as 90 icebreakers among allied nations over the next decade. These vessels offer a critical capability in a region with increasing strategic significance. - “This is a strategic imperative,” a senior U.S. official told reporters on Wednesday. ”Polar icebreakers are exactly the kind of high-complexity, high-tech market segment in which America is well-positioned to thrive and lead, particularly with added expertise in technology. And this will help build out our industrial capacity but also provide benefits to our Allies, consistent with the message you’ve been hearing this week at the NATO Summit.” - Icebreakers provide a presence where other ships can’t go and help pave the way so they can. The growing need for them is spurred by melting ice coverage that opens up new lanes of shipping up north, adding additional competition for influence on the water and the potential natural resources lying below the surface. As a result, the Arctic region is increasingly becoming a potential flashpoint. It has seen significant investment in military resources, especially by Russia, which is massively expanding its aviation facilities at Nagurskoye Air Base, adjacent to its large Arctic Trefoil outpost. - as the ice packs melt the need for icebreakers will only increase. US House passes bill forcing Biden to send weapons to Israel --- #intelligence #Israel #USA #congress #BIDEN #Weapons #Gaza #hamas #Hezbollah #MiddleEast --- The US House of Representatives passed a bill on Thursday that would restrict President Joe Biden’s ability to withhold weapons transfers to Israel, aiming to force the president to deliver certain weapons after he previously placed shipments on hold. The bill, known as the Israel Security Assistance Support Act, was crafted “[t]o provide for the expeditious delivery of defense articles and defense services for Israel and other matters.” The bill condemns Biden’s decision to pause the shipment of heavy bombs to Israel earlier this month, calling on the president to allow the transfers to proceed. The bill stated that Israel is currently facing “unprecedented threats from Iran and its proxies, including Hezbollah, Hamas, and the Houthis” and that Congress “reaffirms Israel’s right to self-defense.” Co-sponsor of the bill Mario Díaz-Balart said that “[i]n contrast to the weak and confused policy of the Biden Administration, the House is standing solidly with Israel as it wages an existential battle against the terrorist state of Iran, and its terrorist proxies.” The bill was approved by a vote of 224 to 187, largely among party lines with only three Republicans voting against the bill and 16 Democrats voting in its favor. If the bill passes the Senate, President Biden has already stated he plans to veto it. Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries indicated Democratic leaders would support that action, stating that “[w]e will sustain the President’s veto, as we have done consistently throughout the 118th Congress.” [..]

After the American spent $350M on the #Gaza dock which failed and Israel spent more than $800M on the barrier with Gaza that failed now it seems the parties are discussing tech sensors to be installed along the  Philadelphi Corridor to detect new tunnels or weapon smuggling efforts between Egypt and Gaza and prevent #Hamas from rearming. Apparently the Americans will pay yet another $200M for these sensors. Looking from the side it seems like we're not learning from past mistakes - relying solely on technology here is the wrong strategy. https://lnkd.in/ebshVpX6

Such a violation was offset of course by the tremendous advantage of surprise. Something to think about in terms of Multi-Domain Operations. What are you willing to risk to present the Chinese with serious dilemmas in the Pacific?

"Biden’s Real Mistake in Pausing Military Aid to Israel" https://lnkd.in/esn5Xbtj "It is unfortunate that President Biden chose to announce his pause of some weapons sales to Israel while on a political campaign swing through Wisconsin. I use that word — “unfortunate” — not because I don’t understand why Biden did so, but because the move has enabled Benjamin Netanyahu to deflect attention from the fact that the most dangerous leader threatening Israel today is not Biden but Bibi. Netanyahu’s policies have not and will not produce a sustainable victory in Gaza, cannot secure Israel against its greatest existential threat — Iran — and are endangering world Jewry and undermining America’s broader Middle East strategic needs and goals. That is the real source of tension between Washington and Jerusalem today. It is not Biden’s temporary hold on sending Israel a fresh supply of 2,000-pound bombs and some other offensive weapons — which Biden has been warning Israel for months that he would do if Israel attempted to pulverize Rafah, the way that it did Gaza City and Khan Younis, without an evacuation of civilians. It is a measure of the level of contempt with which Netanyahu’s government views the Biden administration that Bibi’s Minister of National Security, Itamar Ben-Gvir, immediately posted on X about Biden’s move: “Hamas ❤️ Biden.” That is how Bibi’s team treats the most pro-Israel president in U.S. history, the man who rushed to save Israel from Hamas on Oct. 7 and from Iran on April 13. It is just shameful. Just do a simple mind experiment: Let’s assume Biden gave Israel all the 2,000-pound bombs it wanted. Israel leveled Rafah, where Hamas’s leadership, four intact battalions and many Israeli hostages are believed to be holed up. None of that would change the fact that Israel has no Palestinian or Arab partner to govern Gaza the next day in a way that would ensure a new Hamas would not rise from the ashes. Netanyahu has managed to persuade and cajole Israel’s army leadership and people to fight this war in Gaza for more than seven months with no plan for how to get out and consolidate whatever military victory has been achieved. This is a direct result of the fact that in December 2022, Netanyahu formed the most extreme, far-right cabinet in Israel’s history — to get back into power and stave off his trial on corruption charges. The Jewish supremacists in his cabinet will not let Netanyahu form any partnership with the non-Hamas Palestinian Authority that governs in the West Bank for fear it could lead to a Palestinian state there and in Gaza."

By now everyone’s heard of the assassination attempt on the Slovakian Prime Minister Robert Fico, this morning. This is not an attempt to say what went wrong, for that there are far better experts than me, like Greg Williams, Brian Marren, Joseph LaSorsa, CPP, Christian West, Ivan Ivanovich, Gavin DeBecker, they literally wrote the books on the subject. But I do have some questions, how do we know we are getting the right training? Are we still relying on the “Holy Spirit” factor for protection? Where and when does our training get tested?
