Recruiting isn't broken. People, however, are a glorious mess. Think about it: in this people-powered business, the product itself walks in the door imperfect and slightly (or largely) broken. They have emotional baggage, past traumas, and a resume that might be politely described as "creative." About 1/2 of resumes have false/misleading information... These are everyday people juggling life's curveballs, battling biases, and (let's be honest) might embellish a skill or two. Plus, who hasn't had a nightmare interview, or boss? The good news? We're not searching for robots. We're looking for real humans who bring their unique spark (and maybe a touch of baggage) to the table. The challenge? Understanding – and navigating – the beautiful chaos of human potential. Challenge accepted.

🌟 Some tips for having a great job interview🌟 I know some will roll their eyes at this but it’s a great reminder. Especially if you are new to interviewing or haven’t been on an interview in a while. I can’t tell you how many bright qualified people tell me they are just not great in interviews. So, I hope this helps some of you. I’m starting at the resume portion because it’s so important. Before you apply: Please do not put a picture on your resume. I always make the applicant take it off. Make sure your resume is not too long. Two pages should really be the max. We do not need to know your marital status or your hobbies at this stage. No one has time or will want to read a 6-page resume. If you feel you have to say more do a cover sheet. A couple of paragraphs at the most. The interview: How to dress when we say Business casual. Men: collared shirt with slacks. No t-shirts or jeans. Nice clean dress shoes. No sneakers. Women: A nice dress (not too short or low cut) or nice blouse and slacks. No flip flops or sneakers. Please be at least 10 minutes early for your interview. If you are running late don’t call last minute. Let the recruiter or interviewer know. We all know traffic happens. Allow for that. It’s better to be too early. Be prepared. Do your research on the company you are interviewing at. They will usually ask you what you know about the company. What they do at that particular company. *At the end of the interview they will ask you if you have any questions for them. Please…Don’t just say no or that you think you have all of the information you need. Be prepared. Ask them questions! Interview them a little. Make sure it’s a great fit for you also. Here are a few question examples: What kind of projects are you staffing for? What are the day to day responsibilities of this position? My personal favorite: What do you feel is the best part about working for this company? When do you think you will be making a decision? Hope this helps some of you!
