“As an entrepreneur, I'm used to hearing "no" from Venture firms. As it happens, the firm Jessica represented at the time was evaluating KYX's business case at the outset of its Seed+ Round. On par with 90+% of others, they passed. But, here's where paths diverged from the others: Jessica called me personally to deliver the news. No "VC ghosting", no tepid email blaming themselves for not investing. She gave me the news straight up, answered my questions honestly and thoroughly...and then continued to check in with me through this round of financing, eagerly and earnestly cheering our successes as we closed the round. THIS IS UNCOMMON. It not only speaks to the strength of Jess's character, but also her implicit self-confidence and assuredness, knowing that she would face a tough line of questioning about her firm's decision. So often, VCs talk about conviction: having enough of it, needing to see it from those founders they invest in. The strength of Jessica's conviction, and her resolve to do right by an entrepreneur she got to know while running a process is a bellwether for belief in self, which will serve her well as she must make hundreds of tough equity financing calls about great businesses with excellent founders. Perhaps most importantly, my interactions with Jessica prove the following: she is willing to get uncomfortable. She is willing to live in that space outside of one's own comfort zone, the space where the magic happens. Because near nothing is intrinsically impossible: instead, difficulty is a matter of one's own appetite for discomfort. Jessica is desirous of spending time being uncomfortable -- I do believe she will achieve tremendous success as a result. Lastly, I want to point out one other quality in Jessica that I believe is foundational to any truly successful Venture Capitalist: Inquisitiveness. She asks a TON of questions, finding joy in the complexity of those answers. It's not lip service. She genuinely finds passion in exploration: of new spaces, new ideas and new concepts. I believe that Jessica will rarely find issue with "deal flow"; her open-mindedness simply won't allow for it.”

PRWeek's Student of the Year competition honors an undergraduate student who shows outstanding ability in a range of core PR skills. This year, the task was to create a campaign to help launch the Toyota FCV ahead of its availability in the US next year.
"Creativity is such a key trait in a PR pro," said one judge. "Jessica has it in abundance." "Creativity is such a key trait in a PR pro," said one judge. "Jessica has it in abundance." From her campaign’s tagline, "Out with the H2Old," to an innovative YouTube contest to a unique reply when asked why the CCO is the most important person at an organization – she told a story in 100 words, as opposed to a more traditional response – it was clear Schram has ideas aplenty.
Her thorough research, clear grasp of the subject matter, and great journalist pitch all shone through. "You could tell she had fun putting this together," added one judge, "but Jessica balanced it with poise and polish."
