“I was fortunate to work with Jon as part of a complex digital transformation initiative. I got to witness firsthand Jon's mix of technical expertise, understanding of flow and agility, ability to design and teach, and calm facilitation under pressure. Jon's "light touch" and lighthearted way of being also meant that I (and the broader team) really enjoyed working with him. I heartily recommend Jon in that broad space we call agile coaching!”

Your team is struggling to meet deadlines. How can you get them back on track?
Make sure the people doing the work understand the human problem they are solving. Tell the actual user’s story, not the Jira Story™. Ask for their input, for their creativity in finding the simplest solution to this problem. Going faster isn’t about doing more, it’s about doing less. But you won’t get there without the whole team understanding and engaging with the problem. And for Cunningham’s sake, pay down the technical debt. It’s costing you more than you think.

How can you ensure Scrum sustainability?
Sustaining Scrum may be a distraction—something easier to solve than your team’s real problem. If the framework is working for you and your team, keep going. If it’s not, let go. Keep experimenting. And keep your eye on the real problem, however daunting it may be. Scrum was created for the software industry of the 1990s. There are by now many lighter, quicker ways to ship better results sooner.
