Here's 7 different tactics to help improve your CPM on Youtube... AKA how to improve your total ad revenue A thread🧵👇🏼 1. Geographic Location Listed on Your Channel - Where are your viewers (or your economic spending of your viewers) based in? Different locations produce different spending habits of advertisers. 2. Age of Audience How much buying power does your audience have? How much spending power do they have? Know your audience and view them through the lens of the advertiser. Would they want to advertise on your channel? 3. Niche or Industry Are you in a profitable niche on Youtube? There is PLENTY of opportunity on Youtube, but is there anything out there to show you that your niche is profitable in this space? 4. Seasonal Change in Certain Niches If you're wondering why your CPM goes up and down, maybe something you are looking at are seasonal changes within your niche. Example: maybe your a gym channel where January 1 roles around and you'll see higher CPM due to new year, new me type of season. 5. Types of Ads Placed on Video When you're monetized on Youtube, you're able to select what type of ads placed on your videos. We check them all because not every ad is pushed in total. More ads are more opportunity, let Youtube figure it out 6. Made for Kids Content If your content is for kids. Check the box. Plain as that. If you have a kids channel, you'll make less ad revenue due to the nature of child privacy laws. Don't sweat it though. If you can put out great kids content, you still have the opportunity to create income. 7. Videos Safe for Viewing The content of your videos can drive your CPM down. If you have questionable content in your videos, ads may not even be able to put in your videos. Examples are inappropriate language, adult content, violence, shocking content, harmful ads, recreational drugs, controversial issues, demeaning content, etc. Here's the bottom line and hopefully some encouragement. This usability test drove a massive 12% increase in conversion rate and 31.6% increase in Revenue Per Session... We all know of analysis paralysis... the idea that too many options cause overwhelm in a customer. But sometimes... too many options overwhelm because you don't even know where to start. In this example those 2 dropdowns were originally 14 different swatches It was a hugely bloated experience users were trying to assess each and every option without any indication of what order they were in. Dropdowns tidied this up and turned the Light Length option into a neatly ordered list. The page went from chaos to calm which is exactly what people want when buying aesthetic lighting for their home. 👀 Look at these numbers and realize they aren't "starting from zero" — this is for a customer who ALREADY HAD an engagement platform in place. ⬆️ Traffic up 63.8% ⬆️ Impressions up 2.2% ⬆️ Clicks up 6.2% ⬆️ Unique visitors up 2.1% ...and because every MarTech vendor paints an overly rosy picture, here's how it happened IRL: Feb 13th, we opened our group Slack channel. Feb 28th, we had our first messaging planning/strategy meeting (led by the amazing Annika Dunaway). Early March, the Kashkick team loaded their first batch of messages into Aampe. Mid-March, we had the CleverTap integration complete (a few people were on leave/out of office, so Aampe's engineering team pitched in to do the heavy lifting). Early April — All the data was integrated, triggers and audiences were set, and the first messages went out! 🚀 (Did I mention we had MAU Vegas in the middle of all of this? 😅) April 18th, Stacy E. got her first message selected and scheduled by Aampe on her own phone! (She mentioned that it was timely, relevant and deepilnks worked perfectly.) April 20th, Stacy got her second Aampe generated message (again, she verified that it was solid — good content, timing, and deeplinked to the right resource.) April 24th, we got the message I shared below in that very Slack channel. [By the way, I'd be remiss if I didn't say that Stacy E. and Vernesa Ćutuk have been absolutely incredible to work with. If you aren't using direct mail as an acquisition and retention strategy for your D2C brand, you are leaving a huge amount of cash on the table. If you are just getting started, Michael Epstein from PostPilot shared with me that you should ALWAYS start with retention. There are tons of easy wins. The biggest opportunity is targeting old customers who ARE NOT engaging with your other channels (email, Meta, etc.) and "waking them back up" as he puts it. The magical thing is you can track each of these retention audiences by cohort and understand how each is performing and which is most profitable. Seriously, if you aren't using PostPilot, you need to wake up!
