“[TL;DR: Kimberly is a highly effective engineer. I have never hesitated to work with her because I know I can depend on her. But if you poach her, I'm gonna be upset!] I've worked with Kimberly so many times over the years. I helped recruit her out to the west coast while I was at Macrovision, and for the next two years, she was immensely valuable to the team, running down projects, putting out fires, and keeping things working. Later we both went to TiVo at roughly the same time, though she went to a different group - but I still heard about her impressive accomplishments there, and wished I could poach her into the Broadcast Center. Again, her detail-oriented approach to executing projects and keeping the bits flowing was crucial to the success of her team, and she excelled there for several years, even after I left for Y!. Later I dragged her to Y! - and once again, she hit the ground running and started kicking ass. What else can I say that I haven't said time and time again? She got things done. She held people accountable, and she made sure details were tracked. It was, as always, my pleasure to call her my coworker as well as my friend. Then, once again, we both jumped ship, this time to Conviva. We worked together for two and a half years, doing the same old thing - except now, she was taking charge of more projects and in earlier phases. She planned an entire datacenter build, down to the physical plant. She didn't know how, but she learned, and figured it out, and then executed it. And it was a beautiful install. She kept vendors in line, and she delivered what she said she would. I miss that cage because it was clean, and pretty, and things worked well. It was the house Kim built. We diverged for a couple years, me to a small startup that got eaten by another small startup, her to another startup for a bit, then back to TiVo. Recently, I convinced her to come join me at Oracle. She's been here four weeks and already she's executing like she's been here far longer. Over the years I have watched Kimberly grow from a junior-level engineer into a solid Senior DevOps Engineer. She's fought tooth and nail every step of the way to amass the knowledge, the experience, and the mindset that truly defines a senior-level engineer. I've seen her reliably and repeatably execute time and again as she's grown, from taking simple (and not-so-simple) instructions and grinding them out, to taking a vague idea like, "Hey, so, build me a datacenter for roughly N size", and fleshing out every detail, from power to cabling, cabinets, physical layout, vendor management, cable management, and project management. It's truly impressive, and I wish there were more engineers like Kimberly. Sadly, you can't have her. I just won't allow it. Her value to me as a colleague is incalculable - I simply cannot imagine her working elsewhere again. So please don't try to steal her away - I will cry. Seriously. There will be tears. ”
