Chapter Advocates are Chapter Leaders who strive to influence public policy at the state and local levels through grassroots advocacy. The Chapter Advocate of the Year Award recognizes an individual who demonstrates significant leadership within their chapter and makes extraordinary contributions in influencing public policy.

Kendall Brown, FY19 Advocacy Chair, South Florida Chapter
Kendall Brown has served three terms as Chapter Advocate and has been a South Florida HIMSS board member for the last five years. In this time, she has put the chapter’s advocacy program on the national map. Under her leadership, the Chapter has been awarded the Presidential Seal for Advocacy for 2017, 2018, and 2019. Kendall has taken advocacy from being an unknown entity in the South Florida Chapter to being at the forefront of every chapter event. She is exceptional at building sustainable relationships with key stakeholders in the legislature, including a health IT champion, State Senator Gayle Harrell, which is vital to moving initiatives forward. As one example of her dedication and achievements, Kendall has executed three Annual Health IT Days at Florida’s Capitol to raise awareness of the importance of both HIMSS and health IT with elected officials. Finally, Kendall is always willing to share her experiences and lessons learned with other Chapter Advocates through the Chapter Advocacy Roundtable.

Selection Process for Chapter Advocate of the Year
HIMSS submitted a request for nomination to all Chapter Leaders. The nomination form requested information on Chapter Advocate’s achievements and leadership in relation to advocacy. The Chapter Advocacy Roundtable Chair and Vice Chairs voted on the nominees.
