    It all started with a phone call. The topic? What could the members of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity at Grand Valley State University do to better the world around them? The answer, ATO Walks Hard: Many Steps for MS.

    The men of Alpha Tau Omega walk from Allendale (GVSU Campus) to Traverse City, Michigan each spring break to raise money and awareness from Multiple Sclerosis. Over the past two years that the event has been running I have had the pleasure of being a part of developing this event into something that we all believe will truly make a difference in the lives of those suffering from MS. As someone who has braved the Michigan elements and participated in the actual 160 mile walk the last two years, I have been personally motivated and moved by not only my brothers walking beside me, but also by those who are living with the horrible disease, and the strength that they have on an everyday basis.

    Being a member of America's Leadership Fraternity has allowed me to take on many responsibilities most students don't have the opportunity to during their college career. Some of these opportunities include walking 160 miles to raise a 2 year total of $45,000 toward MS research, attending various leadership conferences in the Midwest, and planning events at high profile venues such as the Amway Grand Plaza. These opportunities have allowed me to grow as an individual and a leader in turn…

These opportunities have allowed me to grow as an individual and a leader in turn preparing me for the professional world.
