“Since our mutual first week at GT in July 2015, Lauren has been a wonderful colleague. Lauren supervised my immigration work, including reviewing visa applications and editing emails to clients. She is an excellent supervisor and has taught me a lot about immigration law and processes. She’s also a great editor and very organized. Lauren genuinely cares about her co-workers, both personally and professionally. She always has a positive attitude and is very approachable and reliable. It was no surprise to hear she won a firm award for her work in Pro Bono, since she obviously also really cares about the community. Lauren is a pleasure to work with and a true professional mentor.”

Promoting Paternal Participation in the PTA and Other Kids’ Activities (A Win for All!)
Working MomKind
Studies consistently show that fathers’ involvement in their young children’s lives leads to improved cognitive ability, educational achievement, and psychological and social wellbeing. And before the pandemic, in 2019, the labor force participation rate of mothers with children under 18 in the U.S. was 72.3%, so it’s not like moms generally have more time for extracurricular activities like school-related volunteering.
But it is still primarily moms in the PTA.

Women in Law: Discovering the True Meaning of Success
Ramses House Publishing
An article was released last year (unfairly) criticizing women lawyers' attention to upward mobility. As an ambitious advocate with a nonlinear career path, I felt compelled to speak out — so, along with 22 other women lawyers, I shared my story! Women in Law: Discovering the True Meaning of Success is an uplifting anthology chronicling personal journeys of self-love, self-reflection, and self-awareness to redefine success in law and in life.
It is available on Amazon and all proceeds…An article was released last year (unfairly) criticizing women lawyers' attention to upward mobility. Understanding (& Advocating for) Parental Leave - Part 2
Robyn
I recently wrote about why it’s important to understand and advocate for paid parental leave policies. While the conversation about parental leave often uses heteronormative terms, I want to emphasize how important this kind of leave is for all individuals and families, for companies, and for society in general. The majority of Americans support this notion; and yet, as of December 2021, the federal budget package that includes paid family and medical leave hangs in precarious balance. Let’s…

The majority of Americans support this notion; and yet, as of December 2021, the federal budget package that includes paid family and medical leave hangs in precarious balance. Let’s take a deeper look at how paid leave is beneficial for all – and let’s advocate for positive change for parents and aspiring parents in 2022...
Whether you are a parent, aspiring parent, or just someone who knows a parent – it’s time to speak up about parental leave.

We talked about how workplace policies can set up moms to fail, but it doesn't have to be that way -- with the right resources and community, you can make positive change. It's so important to parent out loud at the workplace and bring your whole humanity to work. Employers should listen to what employees want in order to keep working parents in the workforce. There is a lot of work to be done, but we can do it together! You are not alone; know your rights and don't be afraid to advocate for yourself and for future generations. Please reach out if you need support.

Parental leave in the United States can be hard to understand, in part because it is not consistent (or adequate) among states or employers. Learn more about what you are entitled to, how you can advocate for a better parental leave policy, and why it’s important on Robyn.

Pursuing Mental Health After Leaving The Legal Profession with Lauren Tetenbaum [TFLP 114]
The Former Lawyer
I went to law school to help people and make the world a better place. I realized quickly that to be the most resourceful and supportive advocate I could be, I should also be a social worker. After a decade in the legal industry as an immigration attorney and in roles managing professional development and pro bono initiatives, including coaching new & expecting parents, I pivoted to focus full-time on mental health at a time when I, a working mother in a pandemic, needed that kind of support…

After a decade in the legal industry as an immigration attorney and in roles managing professional development and pro bono initiatives, including coaching new & expecting parents, I pivoted to focus full-time on mental health at a time when I, a working mother in a pandemic, needed that kind of support and community myself.
On this podcast episode, I tell my story and offer support for others with similar experiences.

Rest is Important - Postpartum and Beyond

How well rested do you feel?
Whether you are a parent or not, it can be hard to find time to rest and take care of yourself. But rest is important — postpartum and beyond. And you are important, too!
