    Patient engaged video surveillance (PEVS) is the leading edge technology that has successfully created a safety net for patients where harm is rare and nursing workforce is protected from patient assaults. During COVID-19, healthcare organizations reengineered this program to protect, engage, and comfort patients in urgent, emergent and isolation environments.

  • Registered nurses, patient engaged video surveillance, and COVID-19 patient outcomes

    MEDSURG Nursing

    Descriptive study of how med/surg nurses in 97 hospitals repurposed patient engaged video surveillance (PEVS) to meet the need of COVID-19 patients in the surge months of March and April, 2020. There were 1,625 COVID patients enrolled in PEVS. Comparisons to safety outcomes of PEVS pre-COVID identified the impact of isolation and PPE on timeliness of rescue.

  • Outcomes of Patient Engaged Video Surveillance on Falls and Other Adverse Events

    Clinics in Geriatric Medicine

    Patient Engaged Video Surveillance (PEVS) implemented in 71 hospitals over one year (15,021 patients; 942,482 surveillance hours) revealed low rates in assisted and unassisted falls. In the 85+ year old patients selected for PEVS - the oldest and most fragile patients - the fall rate was cut to 0.38/1000 patient days.
