“By early 2014, The Law Report Group had reached a decision point confronted by many early-stage companies: we had a solid product, a committed subscriber base and an opportunity for growth. But we had no viable route to realizing that growth. We knew we needed a partner, investor or the right buyer. That’s when we met Reed and his colleagues at DeSilva+Phillips. The DeSilva+Phillips team obtained an outcome – a sale to the Mergermarket Group – that exceeded our high expectations. They were able to do this for at least five reasons. First, they took the time to understand our business and therefore were able to identify a highly relevant universe of potential buyers. Second, they have long-term, personal relationships with CEOs, chairmen and other decision-makers at financial and strategic buyers – gravitas and gray hair. Third, their grasp of relevant accounting and legal concepts (which can affect the outcome of a deal dramatically) is deep and nuanced. Fourth, they have terrific strategic instincts, especially when it comes to positioning multiple assets in a portfolio business. Finally, they know how to generate momentum and drive a process to closing. Mergermarket has been a first-class owner, enabling us to achieve a level of growth that would not have been practicable as a freestanding company. In our transaction, Reed and his colleagues created a lot of value for a lot of people.”
