Are you wanting to improve your quality voice and be sought after for your contributions? "How do you get ahead (i.e. promoted) around here?" This question was posed by a frustrated employee during a roundtable session with a top executive at a company where I worked several years ago. The answer given might not have been what the person asking hoped to hear, but it has stuck with me and proven its wisdom many times over. The executive outlined three key factors for advancement: 1. Positive visibility: Do people go out of their way to seek you out, or do they look the other way to avoid you when they see you coming? 2. Availability: When someone asks for your help or when things get tough, do you willingly volunteer to help, or are you always "too busy"? 3. Ability: In the end, you need to be able to get things done efficiently and effectively. In the coming weeks, I will explore each of these from the perspective of a quality professional and how they can be leveraged for influence and career development. Do you agree with this list? truth: the best leaders I have ever had were mentors and treated me as an asset. The worst leaders I had were bosses, and treated us like a means to an end. Leadership begins and ends with great people leading by example, and instilling a successful and thriving culture. Great leaders empower their people to make decisions, and to grow from their mistakes.

Infinitively proud that the EMIVT (Multimode, electromechanical infinitely variable transmission) won the #Pace award This incredible complex program I led as global program management lead starting in #Dana with Engineering lead #BertHannon, incredibly smart and humble teamplayer, integrating all engineering teams of different disciplines. Key of success in my eyes was #Innovation, #openmindedness #agility #respect and #pragmatism on integration of the many ideas of very different technological teams, letting them merge with a clear technological goal, customer expectation and final goal in a race against time. With this program as Program Director we set a new #programmanagementsystem Integrating all Silos of Engineering development ( mechanical, hydraulical, electrical, software, functional safety, cybersecurity, testing,…) Manufacturing engineering, purchasing, sales, operations,… the only way forward is #together An integrating program management system for software stage gates integrated with V cycle principle in the traditional program management Stage gates. A great legacy as result of an exceptional high performant teamwork. We could develop our talented people trough this program, young program managers, engineers, and team members from all integrative functions in teams across the world. It is incredible what a team can achieve,supported by tenaz leadership and when having a great partnership relation with its customer, thanks to the DANA Brugge team, to all supporting teams and to #oshkosh for the wonderfully experience leading to this great recognition. The technology differs from traditional transmissions that tie the speed of the engine to the speed of the wheels. Dana’s transmission lets a driver choose the most optimum source of power for peak performance. The results are zero-emission operation, reduced fuel consumption of up to 40 percent, a 28 percent improved acceleration time, and lower production cost directly correlated to the use of smaller engines.

You are NOT going to read this. One thing I used to tell the kids I coached in baseball was that the number one tip for hitting was framing our thoughts in a positive way. To demonstrate I would tell them, “Do not look at my shoes.” They would look at my shoes. Of course. Then I would tell them they had the urge to look at my shoes because we have trouble processing the word ‘not’. ‘Not’ is an invisible word to our minds. So when our parents and coaches tell us, “Don’t swing at bad pitches”, guess what our minds are telling us to do? Yep. It’s telling us to swing at bad pitches. Thinking about ‘not’ swinging at bad pitches makes us more likely to swing at bad pitches. Instead we need to frame what we want in a positive way such as, “I’m going to swing at good pitches!” Then we practice visualizing hitting a good pitch. We see the pitch we want to hit before we go to bat. We see it mentally first. And the best part of the mental practice is that we can practice anytime, anywhere… even when laying in bed. “I’m going to hit a good pitch.” P.S. This works for everything! 🙂🤍
