Volunteer Experience

  • Stem lab teacher

Boys and Girls Clubs of Austin

    - 1 month

    Science and Technology

I volunteered at this event through GenNext, a Dell Employee Resource Group. Here I helped teach kindergartners through second graders the fundamentals of coding, such as sequencing, debugging, functions, and more. It was really neat going through the basics of coding with kids so young and having them do so well with the coding challenges!

  • Austin Achieve Public Schools Graphic

    Engineering panelist

    Austin Achieve Public Schools

    - 1 month

    Education

I was one of the engineering panelists who got the opportunity to chat with 11th graders about college, STEM, the tech industry, and general tips/insights for them from my experience. It was a great opportunity to give back to students consider a career in STEM and how to best navigate everything involved with going to college, picking a major, etc.

  • Ann Richards School Foundation Graphic

    Career Panelist

    Ann Richards School Foundation

    - 1 month

    Science and Technology

I was one of the career panelists during the Ann Richards Internship Week. It was a wonderful day spent with the young ladies pursing STEM. Much of the discussion was around diversity and inclusion initiatives promoting women in STEM, identifying and overcoming challenges, inspirational women, and how we can stick together to support one another and learn from our journeys as we navigated from school to where we are now in our careers.

  • Texas State University Computer Science Graphic

    Career Panelist

    Texas State University Computer Science

    - 1 month

    Science and Technology

I was a career panelist for the TXST Algorithms upper level elective course. We discussed how the CS students can best navigate interview and career prep, maintain a successful WFH scenario, and navigating their early careers.

  • UC Irvine Donald Bren School of Information and Computer Sciences Graphic

    Mock Interviewer

UC Irvine Donald Bren School of Information and Computer Sciences

    - 1 month

    Science and Technology

I conducted mock interviews for 4 CS college students to help enable them to be confident and successful going into their coding interviews for internships and full time roles. Most of the students were in their upper level courses and had amazing questions requesting feedback from my experiences, how they can best represent their passions via personal websites and portfolios, and provided input for resume building.

  • Texas State University Graphic

    Go Technical Resource

    Texas State University

    - Present 2 years

    Education

Support the 2022 Computer Architecture class under Greg LaKomski with navigating Go/Golang development & best practices, Git, team-centric development best practices, Open Source community insights, etc.

Also, provide mentorship to individuals who reach out further for career advice and guidance.

Honors & Awards

  • GopherCon Presenter

    GopherCon

Presented main stage at GopherCon 2022 to a room of ~600 attendees on my team's journey through integration testing with Go, and what could Go wrong (pun intended!). We discussed the steps to set up test dependencies, the creation of a custom test package to help write test cases, and then issues where some packages were adding in characters to our Go test output resulting in the misinterpretation of those results by our test report tool. It was quite the journey, and a fun one to present and…

  • GHC Level Up Lab Presenter

    Grace Hopper Conference 2022

Co-presented a hands-on workshop leveraging Open Source tooling to simplify & automate the video/image labeling process. This was presented to a room of ~170 workshop attendees where we used Computer Vision Annotation Tool (CVAT), which is hosted under the OpenCV umbrella, to annotate video footage, understand the challenges and best practices along the way, and demonstrate how much of a team-centric activity this process is for a person tracking annotation project.

  • Open Source Summit Presenter

Open Source Summit North America 2022

Co-presented on a smart city solution to a room of ~100 people. This presentation walked through the learnings and challenges encountered during the design and implementation of this unique solution for AI at the edge for a Security as a Service solution, and the ethical concerns that drive our moral compass in developing CV-based solutions.

  • Intel Division Recognition Award - DRA

    Intel Corporation

This award was given to the team for cross-functional efforts and collaborations as we worked to break barriers for novice AI developers in the biopharma space. The results of these efforts is a microservice-based implementation leveraging some cool tech for a biopharma incubation project.

  • Gophercon Diversity Scholarship Recipient

    Gophercon

I had the honor of being chosen as a Gophercon Diversity scholarship recipient. At Gophercon, I was able to learn more about Go, the many companies who embrace Go, and what's going on within the Go community. I was able to experience the conference with my sister and brother who are gophers as well!
