When worlds collide: Last week, I carved out time midday to pick up my son from his sleepaway camp. I was pleasantly surprised to run into my colleague, Melony Johnson, who greeted me warmly as I walked in. We had unknowingly registered our kids for camp the same week. Moments like these remind me of how I love connecting with my colleagues authentically. In our case, we share a firsthand understanding and love for someone with Autism. The saying goes, "If you've met one person with Autism, you've met one person with Autism." While every family has their challenges and experiences, parents in the autism community are all advocating to find the best fit for their child. I love connecting with other parents on this journey to hear about their experiences, share stories, and learn what works for them. Talking about the spectrum of neurodiversity and sharing experiences with others who 'know' has become a core part of who I am. My insight into the world of neurodiversity has given me a profound perspective on human interaction and the complexities that shape us all, personally and professionally. I have always been interested in #DEI and #Belonging, and my personal insight into the world of neurodiversity has enriched my interest in fostering an environment where everyone feels heard and understood. Respecting and supporting each other's unique experiences and challenges is crucial at work and plays a key role in how we listen and show empathy. This journey has further reinforced the importance of kindness and understanding in every interaction, whether at home or in the workplace. Our latest survey offers a comprehensive look at the current state of selling, featuring insights from 800 front-line sellers. A standout finding: 3 out of 4 respondents believe they could save at least an hour by eliminating the task of creating personalized emails for prospects. While personalization is essential for connecting with prospects, it’s also incredibly time-consuming. Sellers understand its importance, but those hours quickly add up. What is sales readiness? And why should you care about it even if you're not in sales? Making sure your sales reps are prepared to have thoughtful conversations with customers is essential, especially now that customers have a lower tolerance for inauthentic, rote buying experiences. Customers want to leave a conversation not only with a smile on their face, but with confidence that your company is right fit for them, for both the present and the future. And EVERYONE has a stake in that. So you need to make sure, in whichever way you can contribute, that your sales reps are ready to give customers that secure feeling. Thankfully, I wasn't named after the supermarket chain. If my parents were to name me now, I suspect I would have a ‘–son’ at the end. Baby names and how they're spelled can tell us a lot about the times a child was born. While specific names like Noah and Olivia consistently rank high, trends in baby names extend beyond just a few popular choices. In fact, trends are defined by many different names with similar suffixes. The more you try to be different, the more you sound like everyone else. Take the name "Ashley" for a moment. Many parents picked the name for their daughters, but it's the variations that tell the story. If your name ends with “–ly,” you're probably a Gen X kid, but a name ending in “–ley” or “–leigh” might peg you as a Millennial or Gen Z. The same thing goes for boys. In the 2010s, boys’ names ending in “–son” became more popular than ever. So we wound up with names like Mason, Jackson, Grayson, Carson and a whole family of other “-son” names that together make up a major 21st-century trend for baby boys. What did they say about too much screen time? It turns out television and now streaming play a significant part in how we name our kids. Way back before Philo Farnsworth invented the tube, names generally followed family tradition - Junior this, X the 3rd, etc. TV opened up the world with new shows, characters and locales. With the availability cable and streaming, the world is your oyster when it comes to the variety of names (see Kyle, Binky, Rocco and Biff). Like "The Twilight Zone", all this variety breeds irony. While parents may strive for unique names, current trends often influence their choices. This can lead to a decrease in overall name distinctiveness, with a significant portion of names reflecting popular suffixes. As harsh as it sounds, there are times when you can tell the parents almost tried too hard with naming their kids. Let me leave you with some advice. Coming up with a name to make your kid sound cool isn't the best approach. In some ways, it may be the worst because the notion of 'cool' is constantly changing. Focus on names with meaning and less on being unique. Given how everyone is jumping on the bandwagon of popular names, you may even want to look at old school names (Philo, anyone?). It's that moment where your hiring manager asks "Do you have any questions for me?". Answering with "I'm pretty clear on the role and responsibilities" is what could potentially cost you the role you've been preparing for! Answering questions is critical, but asking questions is what will lead you to land your next big role. "The most important question to ask before you accept a job is: What is your culture of learning?" as suggested by a LinkedIn expert. Your discernment is just as commendable as the interviewer's discretion. Go ahead and ask: 1. Can you describe the COMPANY CULTURE and what traits or values are most important for SUCCESS in this role? 2. What opportunities are there for PROFESSIONAL GROWTH and advancement within the company? 3. Can you tell me more about the team I'll be working with and how COLLABORATION typically functions within the organization? Have you heard about the new overtime rule affecting millions of US workers? 👀 As of July this year, millions of salaried workers will be entitled to overtime pay under a new rule from the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL). For employers with exempt employees who are paid less than the new salary threshold, this means there’s a rapidly approaching need to either: ▪ Increase salaries (in some cases by up to 64%) to meet the new threshold; or  ▪ Reclassify the employees to nonexempt status and start paying them overtime when they work over 40 hours per week. To stay compliant, more businesses will need to ensure they’re accurately: ✅ Recording the hours of nonexempt employees ✅ Calculating the correct overtime rates ✅ Keeping a record of compliance if audited  Navigating new compliance news can feel overwhelming.
