I don't quite agree with this idea of fragmentation. AI changed things a bit. However, when people got tired of the toy, they moved on to their former habits. I don’t use AI to search for information due to its weakness and inaccuracies; TikTok to search for something, and YouTube to look for jobs, seriously? The traditional ways of doing things still apply, and the need for content will never wane, no matter how saturated. In years to come, people’s books will still sell even if we have enough books, and films will still be watched even if we already have enough than we will ever have. It’s too hasty to generalize that saturation of content has caused some fragmentation — however, it has only told us where to look for content and where not to. Businesses can, therefore, invest where it is necessary, and many old strategies still apply accordingly. And as long as new things happen, fresh content can always be created to cater to that need for fresh information.

✨I keep seeing freelance writing jobs with rates as low as $17/hour. ✨ And it really p***** me off. “That’s all the job is worth.” 🛑I beg to differ.🛑 🔷Over the course of a great piece of content’s life 🔷It could garner thousands to 100Ks of hits… 🔷That is worth some MONEY. And an experienced content writer? 🥇Worth their weight in gold. ✨SO: a case study of pay for MY team of writers at Excelsior Content.✨ I asked the freelance writers on my team their average hourly time spent per article. ↪️Which I used to figure their hourly pay rate. ✨✨Here’s what I found:✨✨ ⭐Average time spent per article⭐ –1500 words: 2 hours –2500 words: 3.1 hours ⭐Average pay per hour:⭐ –$52-$60/hour* *This range is based on the time spent per article. ⭐Factors that affect the writer’s time spent per article:⭐ 🦋Whether the content was a batch piece 🦋Familiarity with the topic 🦋Time spent at EC (the longest-employed writers tend to spend less time) 🦋Personal factors (i.e. caring for a child while trying to write) ⭐Individual writer pay breakdown⭐ Writer 1️⃣: $40-60/hour (dependent on if she’s caring for her child while writing) Writer 2️⃣: $60-80/hour (grad student/spends a lot of time writing/reading) Writer 3️⃣: $60-80/hour (does the most work for EC) Writer 4️⃣: $40-50/hour (newest to EC) ✨✨✨I pay all my writers the same per-word rate.✨✨✨ And I’m fully transparent about that fact. I based my rate on the average hourly rate a writer will spend on my articles. 🏆In fact, streamlining content was an important goal for me… 🏆Only to ensure writers got better pay for the work they did. →Here’s how I help them mitigate the time they spend per article: 🔵I write the most detailed outlines/briefs they’ve ever seen ➡️I know, because they’ve told me 🔵I don’t believe in group feedback ➡️Unless it’s an error everyone is making all the time ➡️Feedback is specific to the writer ➡️I find they integrate feedback easier with this method) 🔵I vary their work ➡️Writers do better when they are not bored ➡️Some topics are boring! ➡️So, I split up the work among them 🔵I limit batch content per writer ➡️Batch content is important for content strategy ➡️But freelance writers burn out easily on it ➡️So I limit to two of the same-style pages per week, per writer 🔵I use daily due date systems ➡️Writers, like everyone else, need help keeping on track. ➡️Instead of weekly or monthly due dates ➡️I make assignments due on differing days of the week. What is the difference between a Copy Editor and a Proofreader? 🤔 They each have a separate job. They are two of the stages of editing. Canva Pros: Intuitive design tool for creating social media graphics, book covers, and promotional materials. It has a large library of templates. They even have a social media scheduler now. Cons: While versatile, it might not suffice for more detailed graphic design needs that professional software like Adobe provides. Costs: Free basic version. Pro version costs $10 per month. - Ya heard this one? - Dear reader,     Gotta joke for ya.   If girls with big boobs work at Hooters, where do girls with one leg work?   Answer: Ihop.   Yep, that's about how well that joke should go over.   Okay, so why the tasteless joke, the sophisticated amongst you may ask?   Does there need to be a reason?   Actually, there is a reason.   Listen:   In the March issue, I revealed a big secret to creating a powerful personal/business brand. One of the examples inside the March issue was the popular breastaurant Hooters. I can't go into the details here - that would be unfair to my inner circle members.    But I will say this: you should make a conscious effort to study the world's most successful brands and personal brands.    This may seem like an easy thing to do, but when you start paying attention to branding, you'll notice something. You'll notice how bad most branding is in the business world. Most businesses and corporations have horrible branding.   And personal brands?   Now that's a whole nother level of pathetic.   Most personal brands are as weak as a premature kitten with one kidney.   Look, this is an important topic.    If you have a weak personal brand, you won't stand out. And if you don't stand out, you can't attract the right prospects, customers, and clients. And if you don't take the time to create a strong personal brand, you will stay lost in the sea of sameness. You and what you have to offer, no matter how great, will get overlooked.   Simply put: when it comes to you and your offer...   ... I hate when freelance writers use the word “really” or “very”. Me. Freelance writers is me… But sometimes I really need to use it to get one point across. But I know it can be very... redundant. I see some writers using “extremely” to give it a dramatic note, others using “incredibly” for emphasis, and there are always the ones using stronger adjectives like (or such as) paramount, remarkable, or unparalleled (well this last one may be AI). I’m still not convinced of those. Any tips on breaking this habit? #freelancing #freelancewriters #writing

Someone asked me what a Technical Writer does, this question might vary depending on the person and the work they get. This is what I do as a Technical Writer 🧵 1️⃣ For general writing, I use either Obsidian, Google Docs, HackMD, or Dropbox Paper for client projects. My writing is done mostly in Markdown, however some clients prefer Word documents. 2️⃣ Docusaurus is another fantastic tool that I use for producing documentation: Its features include: - Powered by MDX - Built Using React - Ready for Translations - Document Versioning - Content Search 3️⃣ As a writer I could be pitching an article to a client starting with an outline for an article I would like to write or choose a topic from their list to write about. In both cases I research the topic, sometimes build an application and then write about the subject. 4️⃣ If I am writing content for my blog then I have unlimited creative freedom because I can write about any topic I choose. Longer-term paid work with companies means more work and occasionally more freedom. 5️⃣ Grammarly is a must-have tool for ALL writers. Regardless of how well you write just having it on improves the quality of your written material significantly. My current and future work reads much better than my older articles. 6️⃣ Technical writing also opened up the door to content creation which has led to many different collaborations and work with other companies and developers. The work consists of documentation, programming, content creation, and making diagrams. 7️⃣ While the role requires a lot of writing articles are typically 1500 - 2000 words long. Posting content is bare minimum for showing up. And I see a lot of checking the boxes: - You have a system for your content, like batching and scheduling - you share your case studies and "value posts" - You're storytelling, commenting, and engaging but you're still not seeing the money for the amount of effort you're putting in. You can check all the boxes. You can even make sure that every week you have your top, middle, and bottom of funnel. And it still won't get you the results you want because you're not focused on activating your audience to action. You're talking at them. You're educating them. You're info dumping on them. You're not moving them. And that creates a lot more work for you. - sales calls take longer - lead times take longer and are more sporadic - it's harder to command the price you want to charge It's not enough to just show up and share a case study or tell a story. You need to position yourself as the unique solution your ideal client has been looking for. And once you make that shift in your marketing, consistent, easier sales is the norm. If creating more consistent, easier sales is top of mind, DM me "content"

HubSpot Certified! 🎉🎉 For anyone wondering if they should look into a cert even though they've been doing the work, I'd highly recommend this course. I learned new tips and tricks and am walking away with a really helpful tech stack list.
