Overview Of Position

This is a term-limited Certificated Career Ladder position as outlined in the Certificated Non-Supervisory Employees Collective Bargaining Agreement between SPS and SEA. Career Ladder positions are stipend roles that entail additional duties beyond a certificated contract. Teachers who apply must have an evaluation rating of proficient or higher in all eight TPEP criteria and a state student growth impact rating that is “average” or higher on their most recent comprehensive evaluation. Teachers who are currently on a focused evaluation must still meet the above criteria. They must also have a rating of proficient or higher in their identified focused criteria and a state student growth impact rating that is “average” or higher on their most recent focused evaluation.

The CTE Specialist position assists teachers in administering, monitoring, and implementing the requirements for high quality CTE pathways. The position provides leadership and support for the staff and collaborates with administrators, instructional staff, and community members to ensure the appropriate CTE curriculum and instructional practices are occurring in all middle and high schools. The CTE Specialist meets with CTE teachers individually and in small groups, with local, regional, and statewide members of the public involved in CTE, and professional learning communities to support implementation of CTE program requirements.

Seattle Public Schools Is Looking For a CTE Curriculum Specialist With Experience In All OR Most Of The Following OSPI CTE Programs

  • Agriculture
  • Culinary & Hospitality
  • Health & Medical
  • Human Services

In addition to the Essential Functions, Qualifications, and Knowledge listed below, preference is given to applicates who:

  • Hold a valid CTE certificate in the area(s) listed above (preferred).
  • Experience developing CTE course frameworks and working with OSPI for framework approval.
  • Have classroom experience teaching CTE or STEM courses at middle or high school level.
  • Demonstrated success implementing and supporting Career and Technical Student Organizations (CTSO)
  • Have industry experience in the areas above.
  • Have experience leading teachers and providing professional development.
  • Demonstrated success collaborating with industry partners to support CTE programs.

Assess the effectiveness of school's instructional program on a regular basis, using formative and summative assessment, common assessments, student work samples and student achievement data aligned to the CCSS.

Position reports to: Assigned Program Manager

Essential Functions

  • [Consultation] Provides support for the collection and use of school data and the implementation of academic achievement plans in schools; supports the District's Standards-Based Learning System, including curriculum, assessment, and instructional resources; guides school teams in academic decision-making, instructional and District priorities and professional development priorities; and coordinates academic services with the Offices of Special Education and English Language Learners. (15% of the time)
  • [Resources and communication] Develops and disseminates instructional resources and tools, including common standards-based assessments, using best practices and research; provides expertise and trains schools in the collection, use and analysis of resultant data with tools for improving instruction and student learning outcomes. (40% of the time)
  • [PD] Plans, develops, conducts and/or coordinates in-service staff development opportunities for district-wide teams in current research methods of instruction, assessments, and standards-based learning systems to increase academic achievement of students; trains teachers in a wide variety of skills and techniques; collaborates with teachers in the development and delivery of professional development; and facilitates school teams in data analysis and crafts action plans informed by the analysis.(40% of the time)
  • Attends a variety of meetings, conferences and seminars to maintain current knowledge of standards-based education school efforts, educational research, trends, directions and issues; communicates findings as appropriate. (5%)

Other Functions: Performs related duties consistent with the scope and intent of the position as directed by program manager.

Valid Washington State Teacher's Certificate

Valid Washington State Driver's License or evidence of equivalent mobility

Testing: Must be career ladder eligible.

Clearances: Criminal justice fingerprint and background check

Allowable Substitutions To The Above

bachelor's degree and academic preparation in the field and three years of successful teaching experience in the assigned curriculum field may substitute for the Master's requirement.
