Job Goal: Substitute Teachers will need to execute lesson plans left by the absent teacher, create and maintain a respectful and fair classroom culture that fosters safe and productive learning remotely and/or in person. Substitute Teachers will monitor, observe, and report student behavior according to school policies and procedures remotely and/or in person.
Assuming you are available for substitute teacher assignments, your services will be intermittent in nature and
Employment in this regard, is therefore not applicable under the provisions of chapter 71, Section 41 of the Massachusetts General Laws pertaining to tenure of teachers and superintendents. In any event, I can provide you with reasonable assurance of employment as a building based substitute teacher during the forthcoming year.
Responsibilities
Maintain and respect confidentiality of student and school personnel information;
Maintain discipline and classroom control that fosters a safe and positive environment for all students and staff in accordance with school policies;
Ensure the adequate supervision to assure health, welfare, and safety of all students;
Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities;
Report to Principal of the school upon arrival and departure at school if in person;
Check in Frontline under substitute notes for link to lessons for the day if remote and/or in person;
Review lesson plans, materials, and/or instructions left by absent teacher;
Report student injuries, accidents, illnesses, or discipline problems to the school principal immediately or as soon as is reasonably possible;
Implement lesson plans, while ensuring the integrity of academic time and in a manner which motivates students to learn and participate;
Organize students for effective instruction;
Dismiss all students from the classroom before leaving the building if in person;
Ensure that all students leave the zoom/google site before leaving the online classroom
Comply with and support school and division regulations and policies;
Model non-discriminatory practices in all activities;
Perform other related duties as assigned by building administrator(s) in accordance with school policies and practices.
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
Experience in google classroom or zoom platforms
Experience in delivering lessons online
Experience monitoring students online
Experience teaching or working with school age children
Teaching capabilities in all subject areas
Excellent communication and organizational skills
The ability to maintain effective classroom management strategies
The ability to follow oral and written directions
The ability to address the various learning styles of students
The ability to implement strategies, activities and techniques for promoting quality student performance in both academic and social behavior based on student's prior knowledge and experience
The ability to effectively contribute to and manage an individual program plan for students with special needs;
The ability to create and maintain a climate of respect and fairness for all students
The ability to demonstrate fair and ethical judgments
The ability to apply appropriate consequences for inappropriate student behavior
The ability to display problem solving, cooperative negotiating skills and conflict resolution strategies
The ability to use classroom instructional time appropriately and wisely
Qualifications
Must have excellent technological skills
Candidate must be at least 18 years of age
Education equivalent to graduation from an accredited high school or General Education Certificate (GED)
