General Definition of Work

The academics manager, under limited supervision, performs advanced level work with moderate decision-making discretion managing initiatives that are directly aligned to the district's strategic plan. Provide business process support and project management for the Academics department. This position monitors initiatives and coordinates the alignment of the work collaborating within the department and across the division. Employee performs complex and managerial work to carry out Board of Education policies and procedures under the direction of the Associate Superintendent of Teaching & Learning.

Place of Work

The normal place of work is on the premises used by Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. Charlotte- Mecklenburg Schools reserves the right to require you to work at such other place(s) as it may reasonably require from time to time.

Essential Functions

  • Adhere to all state, federal, and local laws, policies, and procedures
  • Lead and manage assigned programs/staff in the division
  • Update policies and regulations to align with current initiatives
  • Monitor timelines and progress towards milestones and deadlines
  • Develop and execute an operational plan, including goals and objectives with measurable outcomes, to optimize application development and integration, vendor relationships, special programs, and project management to support the strategic plan
  • Establish and implement best practices, protocols, policies, and procedures for conducting needs assessments, identifying, and selecting projects and solutions, engaging, and communicating with departments/schools and vendors, implementation and roll-out, and monitoring and evaluation
  • Assess and manage the process of designing, developing, and improving new and existing applications and integration tools
  • Initiate and direct root cause analysis and problem-solving techniques to clearly identify the scope and priority for projects as well as alignment to the district's strategic plan and/or solution to operational/business process issues
  • Manage contract process to ensure timely execution and compliance with all procurement policies and procedures
  • Manage vendor relationships, including data sharing agreements
  • Monitor budget and participate in the budgeting process
  • Cross-functional partnering and collaborating across district departments and management teams to ensure alignment, coordination, and planning for shared work streams and initiatives
  • Participate in professional development workshops and leadership training
  • Create an inclusive environment with positive communication/public relations
  • Perform related work as assigned or required

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Comprehensive in-depth knowledge and understanding of the principles, practices, and procedures of public school system
  • Comprehensive knowledge of federal, state, and local regulatory requirements
  • Thorough knowledge of county and school board policies, procedures, and standards
  • Ability to maintain professional and emotional control under stress
  • Ability to reflect appropriate response to situations, while maintaining a professional and personal demeanor
  • Ability to learn and use specialized tools, equipment or software related to business needs
  • Ability to develop and monitor a budget
  • Ability to implement local, state, and federal rules, guidelines, and procedures into daily business operations

Education And Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field required
  • At least three (3) years of related experience required
  • Any equivalent combination of education and experience

Special Requirements

  • Possess and maintain a NC Driver's License or ability to provide own transportation
  • Travel to school district buildings and professional meetings
