JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Pennsylvania State University's Office of the Bursar Information Technology unit is seeking an Applications Developer to design, develop, test, debug, install, implement, modify, and support new or existing applications software, provide end user consultation, training, documentation, and guidance, and monitor applications and websites for quality standards while making adjustments as necessary.

We are looking for an individual who is creative and enjoys collaborating with others to improve various business processes, a dependable team player who is self-motivated and passionate about creating programming solutions. An individual who can maintain a high level of professionalism, has the ability to meet specific deadlines and demonstrates the ability to work independently and handle multiple tasks simultaneously. The Applications Developer should be comfortable with changing priorities and be open to developing new skills. This individual will be responsible for brainstorming ideas for improving and resolving problems as they arise.

The position will involve designing and building accounting related and office support web-based applications, analyzing and improving existing applications, and managing databases.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the following:

  • Work with users to analyze their requirements; determine scope and specifications; participate in project planning efforts
  • Develop application and website components, features, modules and templates; this may include the development of custom interfaces, modules, and themes
  • Ensure University standards, accessibility requirements, coding practices, and security are being adhered to
  • Develop and maintain integrations; may include internal and external tools
  • Test and deploy updates and fixes before release to ensure quality
  • Prepare user operations manuals and other documentation
  • Investigate application and website issues; perform root cause analysis, take corrective actions
  • Communicate and escalate degradations and outages
  • Research, develop, and implement new functionality requests for applications and websites
  • May conduct formal presentations on newly developed websites and applications
  • Maintain familiarity with installed software standards and procedures and evaluate other tools to determine the appropriate fit into application development
  • Stay current on programming languages for innovative approaches to design and development
  • Provide technical guidance to other staff

This position will be hired at the Intermediate Professional level. This position minimally requires an Associates Degree and 2 years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred experience:

  • Experience with web-related technologies including HTML, XHTML, CSS, ColdFusion and SQL
  • Familiar with common software standards and relationship database design
  • Knowledge of financial accounting
  • Ability to communicate clearly and accurately both verbally and in writing, strong organizational skills
  • Proven record of success as a member of a professional team
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills and ability to interact professionally with our academic partners
  • Accountability, attention to detail and a proven commitment to customer service
  • Experience with Oracle Peoplesoft, query writing in particular

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades is:

$61,800.00 - $89,600.00
